No response Throttle

Featured Replies

Hello, I have a Skoda Octavia Tdi Vrs 2007 Estate106000 miles. I now have an intermittent fault where the throttle has no reponse at all, then suddenly engine revs will pick up as normal, then no throttle response at all, then it will correct itself. However this morning the car would not start, only had 2-300 rpm for a second or two and died, after 3 or 4 attempts it eventually started with normal tickover, but no throttle, the fault suddenly clears engine has full throttle. There are no fault codes, no warning lights on. Initially this happened along a dual carriageway, and when trying to accelerate was as if someone was turning the fuel supply on and off, then fault will clear, but now I am reluctant to use the car as it might pack up altogether.

I have searched through recent posts but nothing seems to replicate this fault, any help would be appreciated.

I would try a new fuel filter with cold weather fuel will be a tad thicker, Fuel heater will help to a degree. (As no fault codes are showing) can't see it being peddle sensor .

Have you had the battery disconnected?

+1 for changing the fuel filter.

This sounds like a more extreme version if what I had (loss of accelerator response, hesitation at odd times, no fault codes, etc.) and changing the fuel filter about 8 months ago has got rid of the problem completely.

Hello,

I have changed the fuel filter, and I admit it was dirty and the diesel was black, so filter and housing all cleaned out, the air valve has also been changed about 6 months ago when warning light came on and I only had limp mode available. I just tried starting it this morning and fault worse, only 500 rpm then dies, does this 3-4 times, then I can get 900-1000 rpm but no throttle, then very very slowly it picks up.

Hello, No battery not been disconnected, or drained flat.

I have just taken the fuel filter out again to see if it has replicated the dirty fuel, but its as clear as diesel should be with no particles in the filter or housing, it now starts with 900-rpm but no throttle, after about 30 seconds of easing the throttle up and down it revs as normal. Still no fault codes or warning lights, outside temperature 3c, turbo is winding up as it should, no smoke from the exhaust at all.

How did you check for fault codes? What did you use?

Hello, I took it to a specialist in Peterborough, lap top plugged into vehicle, full diagnosic check done, only came up with two faults, one in the radio covering the reception, the other about a rear door lock. This was Thursday last week, and unfortunately Bank Holiday weekend, fault stays, and no where open.

I just asked because some generic obdII code readers won't pick up all fault codes.

Still think it is fuel related.

Still think it is fuel related.

So do I, but what to do next, a new pump is costly only to find out it might be something else, so my only option is to get it to Wings of Peterborough for them to at least do a full diagnostic check and find out what it is. I will certainly keep everyone posted.

Wise move, if you havn't got the test equipment you could spend a fortune throwing parts at it, all the best.

Agree, I will let you all know what the outcome is.

Perhaps a dedicated diesel repair firm if no fault codes showing, Good luck & keep us informed

Hello Folks, well local Skoda dealership had car for a day, no fault codes so didn't look much further. Went to collect the car and, hey presto, NO THROTTLE, mechanic still on the premises suggested it's booked in again as now he has seen, and heard the fault, he can delve a bit deeper, but with no fault codes, or much else there was not a lot they could do. So Monday morning its back in again, they kindly gave a a new citigo to use, and as long as you rev it a bit to keep momentum up it went ok but still want the Tdi back working correctly. :hi:
