skoda fabia refuses to start - does not get fuel

Featured Replies

i tried to turn on my skoda fabia x reg this morning and it did not start. the battery is good no problems it turns it fine. i checked the spark plugs there is power going to them.

i then got an easy start and started spraying it the car starts but as soon as you stop spraying it stalls and cuts out. so i thought the fuel filter was clocked so i changed it.

tried it again and no success. the car does not seem to get any fuel.

i have looked and all the fuses are fine as well

pls any help

Have you checked the fuse to the fuel pump?

Any codes on the ecu?

no codes on the ecu. i looked at the fuse this morning and it was fine. i then looked again it was gone so i changed it. now the fuse is good.

I'm on my mobile so I don't see your car listed next to your profile info. First thoughts: are you *sure* you refitted the filter correctly, first fault could be the fuse, next fault incorrectly fitted fuel filter if it's petrol.

it did the same thing before and after i installed the new fuel filter. its a fabia 1.4 petrol. the car will run with the easy start being sprayed in the air intake but once the spray stops the engine stops. fuses are ok.

i been reading on this forum and thought it might be the relay but im not sure. well relay 109 in participial.

any suggestions i am stuck in Manchester and cant get back to London until i fix this damn thing

ps its not the immobiliser

can you hear fuel pump running ?

  • Author

i have not heard it run. how do you do that

normally with electric pumps you can hear them buzz with the ignition on ?

When you turn the key to position one do you hear the fuel pump prime? Is it the 3 prong type fuel filter, again are you absolutely 100% sure you reinstalled it correctly? Even if you did it'll need a bit of priming as replacing the filter with a new dry one introduces air into the system.

well i unhooked the fuel pipe that goes to the engine and tried to turn it on but no fuel was coming out. the starter moror kept going and the engine was turning but no fuel was coming out so i think the fuel pump is gone.

ps i took out the back seat and the pump was viable so as recommended i turned the ignition without starting it and all i could hear was a click. no buzzing was coming from the fuel pump.

on Saturday i filled up the tank to the max (at the point where it started pouring out of the hole) do you guys think that may have affected it? i did do over 100 miles after that.

no overfilling the tank will only wet your feet

I'm still not convinced it wasn't the fuse that caused the issue initially and that it now isn't working because you have the fuel filter supply and return feeds the wrong way round, that's *if* it's the 3 prong type but your not exactly helping with answering any of the questions asked.

All you've proved so far is that the fault is probably somewhere between the filter and the pump, you could always remove the filter altogether to confirm it's not the filter, if the pump sends fuel through the pipe when cranked (put the pipes into a fuel can and you can re-use it). To check this costs you a few minutes, to blindly replace a pump only to discover the pipes have been accidentally reversed when you changed the filter will cost you a lot more.

+1 check filter and pull a pipe off to double check pump isnt pumping

just checked the fuel filter and it was installed correctly. its the pump thats gone. i took it out and the thing wont turn it just clicks and thats it. there is power going to the pump as i used a light to test it and it turned on.

i hooked up the pump to the battery direct and the thing wont turn (buzz) it just clicks and thats it. so im off to get another from a scrap yard some where (if i can find one)

the fuel pump was gone. went to the scrap yard got another for £40 and now the car starts as normal.

i would like to thank every one for the help. seriously could not have done it with out you.
