vrs struggling to start engine managment light on

Featured Replies

Hi all , new to the site not long a skoda octavia vrs 1 on 04 plate owner,

my issue is not long after buying my car from a private seller , i stalled in traffic (whoops) and then when i went to restart my car the engine management light came on an i had to keep cranking to get it to start, once started it drives perfectly fine, i took it to a local vag specialist to have the problem solved and have a stage1 re map, i was told it had came up as a cam position sensor, then after a day at the garage went to pick the car up they said they changed the sensor to find that didn't solve it, they checked the timing of the car etc an said it was fine to re map so they did and to send the car back to look into the wiring, it went back for another day and still no luck, i then sent it to a different garage, and they had it for a day and said they couldn't work it out either :( i changed the 428 relay and that hasn't done anything either...... so now i'm at a loss i always have to keep cranking it to get it to start and eventually the starter motor is going to die out ... can anyone help me as i would hate to loose my money on this awesome car and break it for parts when i enjoy driving it.....PLEASE HELP !!!!!!

:wall: :( :swear:

When you crank, does the rev counter show zero rpm?

So is the fault code still cam position sensor?

So is the fault code still cam position sensor?

yes it still brings up that code, sensors have been changed and wiring has been checked...

What is the fault code?

Do you have a reliable 5V between pins 1 and 3 of the sensor?

i will have to find out the fault code , as far as im aware yes as all power an wiring was checked

could be a faulty new cam sensor? mine was the same 4/5 attempts to start, came up cam sensor changed now fine! would try swapping for another one known good.

The Charge air pressure sender shares the same 5V supply from the ECU as the crankshaft position sensor. Unless you are getting a fault for this too, it narrows the problem down to the sensor, connector or wiring between the sensor and the loom/ECU.

i may try another new sensor, i think two were tried but will be no harm except to my wallet to do this, connections and wiring for the sensor have been checked with nothin found... its a real head scratcher for two garages one being a vag specialist :S

Make sure you get the correct genuine part.

is there any other suggestions if a new sensor does still not solve the issue????

so it does eventually start? How long before it fires into life? if so then it could be a fuel supply issue, but if you still have cam position error then you need to get that cleared first. To test fuel supply try cold start with startup spray directly into the TIP if it fires pretty much straight away then that shows the fuel is slow getting there.

I had this problem on my VRS an found it was the crank angle sensor (after changing the cam position sensor), right at the bottom of the engine and a pig to get at!

Hey sorry for the slow reply i have limited internet access . I may try this crank angle sensor . . . Were your symptoms the same ?

Yeah, the car would crank for ages and finally just about turn over... Then eventually it would just crank and not start at all
