Bentley Continental GT - What a beast!

Featured Replies

Spent nine hours with this car today and it never moved an inch! What a machine! Worlds apart (sadly) from the build quality of anything else I have been close to!

I got over that side of things a long time ago. :) I even used some (gentle....) wet sanding in a couple of places to remove a couple of scratches.

That shows my complete and utter lack of understanding of cars, sanding to get rid of scratches :(

I can't think of many comparable situations, but you know how sometimes firemen start fires to control wildfires? Well, kind of like that! :D

The literal way to think about it is say the clearcoat for some reason is 5mm thick (I know it never is but....) - say you put a scratch in it which is half a mm deep, so beneath that scratch the clearcoat is 4.5mm thick and it stands out because of the half mm difference. So, to remove, the surrounding clearcoat around the scratch needs taking back to the level of the scratch, This is achieved by either machine polishing for a long long time (depending on paint hardness, etc etc) or you can locally wet sand down to 4.5mm - This leaves a cloudy layer on the surface, then simply polish to remove the cloudy layer. job done.

In my porsche project there is the literal showing of this:-

Crappy paint, wet sanded (can see where done on right, where to go on left)

Looks shocking once done and dry

Was he drunk? :D

Top work Jason.

Was he drunk? :D

No! You'll see the signature line on the GT & the Fabia that runs down the edge of the bumper to the bottom...
