Electrical power loss to steering wheel - universal problem?

Featured Replies

Is it a universal problem/anyone else having a problem? I am getting an intermittent problem with my steering wheel, that when its gone, i can change radio, volume, or paddle shift. When the lights are switched to on, the lights are not illuminated on the steering wheel, thus reason to believe electrical power is not getting to the steering wheel. But i do still have power steering, and the car drives perfectly fine, its just very frustrating to have this issue with new cars!!! I have in the previous year had the same issue, and had the steeringwheel control unit replaced and steering wheel, but has recently gone again and booked it in and had the control unit replaced once again!

So yesterday i booked it in and got a new control unit fitted, they took it down the road all working, shifting with paddles, but when i came to pick it up it wasnt working so as soon as i found out i headed straight back to the garage... as its an intermittent problem i dunno how it can be sorted... They said that i should book it in again (which i have got booked for later in the month) but my point is, surely they have done in their best interest to get the problem sorted 1st time round and what can they do this time round that they didnt last time to get it to work... I understand its hard to test an intermittent problem but has anyone else had similar problems or am i just an unlucky one?

Just to add to the frustration, every time i go back to a skoda garage (must have been back atleast 10 times, if not more in 2 years) and ask for the MDI cable that was meant to come with the car, and always get the same responce, its on order sir, and i leave like, well ok, and it never seems to turn up... is this poor customer service or what... Im going to be sending an email to skoda uk, linking this page, so if there are any recurring themes, please do post, skoda uk do generally seem to get things done!

Cheers max.

It looks like there is an underlying cause for the failure you are describing and nobody can be bothered to investigate it. They just change the faulty module for a new one without fixing the problem - unacceptable in my opinion. Same with MIDI cable, it is not "on order" as this is the most common accessory there is lol. Which dealership is it?

iv been to 3 different dealerships (watford, letchworth, hemel), all the same response on the mdi cable! and taken to letchworth for the steering wheel problem, 1st time round replacing the control unit and steering wheel fixed the job... for a year, before it went again! and this time even replacing the control unit hasn't fixed things... it seems like there is just a loose connection/wiring, but surely that would be too easy to fix and to neglect... so im geussing something more...
