Drive through car wash does not like SUPERBs

Featured Replies

I know that a lot of you will tell me I was taking a bit of a risk taking my Superb estate through a Drive thru carwash, but I am here to tell you, do not do it with a Superb with low profile tyres on 18 inch wheels.

Yes I know on hindsight it was probably going to happen.

My pressure washer had broken, and I could not stand the car being as dirty as it was so I decided (against my better judgement) to go through. BIG MISTAKE. :wall:

I did not notice until two days later, but I am 99.9% certain that the track that pulls the car through damaged one of my Sirius wheels. Not too much of a mess, but still enough to annoy the crap out of me.

Has any one had experience with hiring one of those mobile 'body shop' guys and if so, how much can I expect to pay for fixing minor damage on an alloy?

I am thinking of this company. http://www.revive-uk.com/franchisee/details/east-fife-and-Tayside

Raymond.

I cannot be bother to get all my pressure wash kit out when for a £5 our teams of Afkans, Kurds or whatever wash the whole car with a pre wash additive then rinse followed by a shampo and hand wash and dry. They also include all the door shut areas (including rear door), alloy wheels and tyres and to top it all they provide you with an air freshner for inside your car.

And a polite warm smile.

I don't mind using the selectable jet washes at supermarkets, Sainsburys and Morrisons do a good pay by minute offer - 10 mins for about 4 quid.

I don't like being in a machine thats pulling something I'm not in control of. Hope you sort your wheel out, I'd be really upset too!!

I will pay my £5 and watch the car tv while they do the work (above) but I also would not use the auto machines either.

Just don't park your car in direct sunlight after you have taken the easy option and used a car wash !! Your paintwork will give the game away. When the weather is bad I would rather leave the car dirty until I could give it a proper wash with proper car shampoo and a microfibre sponge.

We use Revive for our wheels, admittedly the job is only as good as the bloke doing it.

One problem you may have is the finish on the wheels, with the Superbs they are a polished finished and your Sirius ones are half and half. Have a word with whichever company you choose but AFAIK they can't get the wheel back to a polished look.

If they can't then there are plenty of wheel refurbishment companies that will 'dip' the wheel, getting the same (or as near as damn it) finish to the others.

Hope that helps.

Ah well. Thanks for the info guys.

I suppose the other option is to perhaps buy one new wheel and keep the other as a full sized spare. I am assuming that it will fit into the boot after the filler has been removed.

Does Skoda allow owners to buy one wheel of any of their alloy models? I realise that this option will probably be a bit too expensive.

I am prepared to look into it though, but I am sure if I went through a dealer they will add their cut.

At least my chosen swear words on the matter have toned down a bit. Still scunnered (a fine Scottish word) though.

The wheels are 18" Sirius bi colour alloys (7.5J x 18" 225/40 R18 92Y)

I have had no success yet in finding an outlet that sells them.

18"do not fit in the well I am afraid.

My Superb II Elegance hatch had an 18" wheel in the space o.k. and when I changed to a Superb II Elegance Combi I put it in that one and when I changed this year to a Superb II Hatch L&K I put the same wheel in the spare space. I bought an 18" wheel and full size tyre for my first Mk II vehicle and as you can see I have fitted it in the rest perfectly. Or perhaps I was able to get all my vehicles with a different rear floor that takes a full size 18" wheel.

DAMN! That's that idea shafted then!

You should be able to get a single alloy through your Skoda dealer. They replaced one of mine with a new one when I bought it, although admittedly that was the standard 18" alloy on the Elegance rather than the Sirius 18" on the L&K.

Would rather drive with the car totally minging than use a car wash of pretty much any sort. But then me being me, I would! :D

For those that subscribe to the two-bucket (or even one-bucket) wash method, "ScratchShield" is a cheap-ish grit grate to stick in the bottom of your bucket, to help prevent scratching your car.

About £7 delivered from the Bay of e.

I just cut a plastic vegetable colander to size and it fits better than a grit guard. Would not wash the car without it.

with regard to the wheel, the dealers price them individually so they must sell them individually.
