Coolant problems

Featured Replies

Hi I've got a problem with the wife's vrs,the temp gauge struggles to go above 50 and only goes above this when I switch the engine off for 5 mins and back on then the temp drops again! I've changed the temp sensor and today went to change the thermostat but got the wrong one however I tested the old one and it opens fine( complete nightmare changing that bugger) anyway its not throwing codes so what could the problem be? Also I can stick my finger in the expansion tank and the water isn't very hot! Any ideas? Many thanks

- Water pump.

when was it last changed? they have a habbit of falling apart and should be done with every cambelt.

Should water be pumping back into the expansion tank and also is this a big job?

the water pump flows the water around the cooling system. mine seemed to be alright but when we got it out it was shagged.... lol

Its a job where the cambelt needs to come off so might aswell do this at the same time.

In other words.... its the cost of a cambelt.

Still worth changing the Stat as they sometimes show signs that they are fine but actually are dead.

get an OEM stat as the aftermarket stuff is Karap and will last half the time of an OEM one.

I changed my thermostat today havin same symptoms described. tested the old one and opened okay. Put the new one on and temp was holdin at 50. Removed water pipe goin to heaters in dash to get rid of air lock. Temp shot straight up and water began getting warmer
