Wheel care + tyre pressure

Featured Replies

Morning all,

Should hopefully be getting my wheels today if I can get home from work before the courier gets there!

Just a couple of quick questions if I may....

Whats the best way to look after wheels with a chrome lip? Are there any goos polishes etc to protect the wheels from the elements, or would something like autogylm car polish be adequate enough?

And the second is regarding tyre pressures. Front wheels are 7.5J, and the backs are 8.5J, both wrapped in 205/40 tyres. I assume higher pressures are needed to keep the stretched walls against the rim. Can anyone tell me if there are reccomended pressures to keep these at?

If I get the wheels on today, I'm sure I can sling up some photos to say thank you :p

Cheers, Mike

Great stuff :) Thanks for that! I fear I may become one of these "anal" people that clean their car every few days :p Not that its a bad think. Just a shame the bodywork is getting a little tatty, but with the moon miles it has, I cant complain :)

Morning Mike, any wheel sealant or wax would be best to keep them. Apply several coats of something like:

Don't let the dirt rest on them for too long, I know guys that keep a microfibre and a quick detailer in their car at all times to take the muck off the wheels.

I would recommend a couple of coats of collinite 845, hard wearing, heat resistant and easy to apply.

I have a bottle of this in the boot http://www.kleenfreaks.bigcartel.com/product/kleen-freakd-detailer just apply the wipe off with a microfibre.

That sounds like you can use it on the car too?

Yer I use both products on the car.

The wax you apply every 6 months or so, then inbetween waxes I use the detailing spray.

The spray is also good at removing finger marks and so on...

id recommend FK1000p on alloys

will last for ages

Have used that before aswell, very hard wearing wax!

Hi Mike, I've polished wheels with a couple of coats of Autoglym SRP for a bit of a glossier finish then sealed them with Collinite 476s wax and have found it to be a great combination.

It takes a while but then saves loads of time when cleaning the wheels on the car, well worth the effort for me.
