Monte Carlo tdi 105 what tuning box/remap

Featured Replies

Hello everyone just want to know what tuning boxes you are running? A remap is the way to go "shark" but has the car is only 6months old I would prefer something I can remove has n when! So until the car is atleast a couple of years old a tuning box is my only option. Remap and Tuning box opinions all welcome lets get a good debate going on the pro's n con's for both tuning methods

Personally I don't like tuning boxes at they do not adjust all settings necessary, they just pump up the fuel rail pressure.

Recently I have seen a new Astra J 2.0 CDTi go onto the rolling road with £400 worth of tuning box only to find it ran more power with the box removed!

If it was me and you were worried about warranty etc I would try and find a kit like Bluefin where you can return it to standard map at anytime then just put it back to modified map once its back from the garage...

Hi r8mxx had a look at Bluefin but but vag 1.6 cr tdi not listed i'd already gone through the various questions in this forum obviously the recent post's by Monte_mango and Brimma made for good reading and at some point in the future i'll be paying a visit to shark.

I was just hoping that there might just be a genuine "good" box out there even at an higher price than a remap that could give this little engine a pep up, Or are all these boxes £50-£450 a scam that don't do what they say they do ie multi maps etc etc,I know what is usually said about these boxes about fooling ecu but why advertise they have multi maps when in reality they don't use maps at all and only cheap boards n resistors inside them?? Is'nt it actually illegal to falsely advertise!!! tduk, tunnit etc etc all have big spreads in many motoring magazines claiming big gaines from digi boxes with multi maps when all they are doing is raising either turbo pressure or common rail pressure or even both. :smirk:

Shark currently favourites with remaps I think. Having read horror stories about revo I'd use shark next.

My car is only 9 months old, but I decided life is too short to hang around waiting for a 3 year warranty to expire (don't ever buy a Kia :))

Since my Shark remap the car is running more smoothly than before, has fantastic pick-up, and appears so far to be more economical

Brimma what was the difference with insurance if any, road fund license is it the same? Will emissions change ? Have you removed the dpf ?

1) Very little, because I'm old

2) No idea

3) No, although that might always be an option for the future
