Strange vibration from centre console on FL vRS CR - Climatronic panel

Featured Replies

I've noticed an annoying vibration eminating from my centre console, usually happens when pulling away; vibration of the engine causing something to buzz and i thought it was coming from behind the stereo.

In fairness i dont usually notice it as you cant really hear it with the stereo on and rarely have it off but on a reasonable trip late yesterday with the stereo off think ive found the cause........its the temperature control rings on the climatronic panel; theres some very slight natural play in the wheels and the CR engine seems to emit just enough vibration through the cockpit to make them buzz between a certain rev range.

Not something ill be looking to fix as clearly no fault with the panel, found it quite amusing though as it had been wrecking my head for weeks what was causing it and thought if anyone else had noticed something similar on their FL vRS CR and it was annoying them like it had been me i ought to share this.

I' ve noticed it as well. I hear it now and again, but like you are saying, everything has to be off ( fan, stereo, wife ), you can only just hear it. Having DSG i thought it was comming off of gear stick itself.

Yeah this really wrecked my head for weeks; yet another nice little "characteristic" :-)

Have to say having come from a MK6 Golf with the 140ps CR engine there really is a marked difference in engine refinement; the sound deadening in the Golf was considerably better.

Though still to get what ive got i'd have been looking at the thick end of at very least 25/26k for a Golf GTD (assuming a decent discount) but it would have been no quicker and have had nothing like the load capacity i need nowadays so guess I can forgive it all its quirks for the several K its saved me haha

I had similar but it ended up being the phone charger that the wife had left in the box on top of the dash.

Her best was a few years ago when she waited until the evening before we were due to drive to France at 4 in the morning before telling me that the car had been making a clunking noise when pulling away and stopping for a few weeks (I very rarely drove it). Thankfully that was a CD moving about in the centre armrest...
