03 1.4 Comfort not starting - again

Featured Replies

Had the car a couple of months and had a non start problem once already but came down to a temperature sender issue - showed hot even when cold.

Now we've just come back from a few days away and went to get it out of the garage and it's not starting again. At first sounded like the starter spinning but not the engine but I think it's turning over - just no spark. Get a smell of un-burned petrol and the oil light eventually comes back on and bleeps.

Tried the spare key and just the same. Immobiliser?

Anyone any idea what to try, please? It's the 16valve 1.4 version as far as I know.

I would disconnect the battery and trickle charge it overnight, I would also check the spark plugs if you don't know when they were last changed, change them if they look tired.

This will also reset the ECU if it's over leaning (they usually are) or if the immobilizer is playing up and it should then start.

If you get it running, take it for a decent half hour drive so that the ECU relearns it's settings and run it on high-octane unleaded only from now on.

Thanks for the reply.

I tried a jump start off my diesel in case it was battery down. Spun quick enough with and without the help of the diesel but probably flooded then.

Will try again in the morning and charge the battery if no joy.

Thanks for the reply.

I'm going to completely ignore you, go to bed and see if the magic car fairy fixes it for me while I'm asleep.

Mitch

Good luck with that.

No, just dark and cold in the garage - council lock-up, no power - so battery will have to come out and home with me.

As it wouldn't jump then it's not likely to be the battery. If you have the ability to read fault codes start with that.
