DSG lift off throttle noise

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

Have been enjoying my 62 Octavia petrol vRS since I got it in November - up to 2k miles now. I've looked through countless DSG threads and haven't read anything similar yet.

I noticed a noise about a month ago when driving very slowly in low gears (this could be just because there are no other noises to mask it). It's most noticeable in 2nd gear. If I drive along at 5-10mph and then lift off the accelerator there is short woosh type noise that appears to emanate from the gear box area. It is barely audible and in no way sounds metallic (if that's relevant). It sounds as if something is disengaging perhaps. I know that my description is fairly poor, I can't seem to put what I'm hearing into words very well!

Does anyone else's DSG box make this noise in similar circumstances? Is this a normal noise? I noticed a month ago, but it is so quiet that it could have been happening from new to be honest.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Sounds like the wastegate from your turbo. Normal :)

I think I used the wrong word, it's not really a woosh, at least not one I'd associate with a turbo.

I've heard the sound you described on my 1.8. I put it down to the turbo and haven't been concerned about it.

I had a 2011 vRS TSI (non DSG) & had the same noise & It does sound a bit metallically, almost raspy.

Obviously I can't diagnose it 100% without hearing it, but it sounds like the wastegate.

I have something similar on my manual gearbox Octy, sounds like chirp when lifting off too quick in low gears. I believe it to be a worn DMF on mine (92k miles)

I took a recording of the noise. It's not great audio quality unfortunately. It was in the morning and it was actually making the noise when I began to accelerate as well as lifting off.

Any further suggestions?

Yep, sounds a bit like what mine does, I've put it down to DMF

Surely that can't be my issue if the car has done only 2k?!
