Engine tray

Featured Replies

Hi

Need a bit off advice , just hit pheasant , and damaged engine tray

It knackered and Rac man has removed it .

Will this be a issue , untill I can replace at weekend , will be doing about 250 miles up till then

Thanks

but was the pheasant ok?

the wheel arch liners might flap a little at the bottom and you may hear a little more noise but i cant see it damaging anything

No issues with mine after over 1000 miles with out it on.

It's no problem in the short term. Mine was missing one when I bought it and I decided to get another fitted as it assists smooth passage of air under the car, as well as keeping the engine bay clean and the sump and IC pipes protected to a degree. Nothing happened to mine in the 4k I drove it without one though, but they put it there for a reason. If the manufacturers could save money by not fitting one, they probably would.

With the thermal efficiency of the PD lumps it would also in theory reduce excessive airflow in the engine bay, shortening warmup times and ultimately reducing engine wear. Negligible of course, but theoretically sound. Up to you.

I imagine in hotter climes it may be beneficial to remove or cut vents in it as a makeshift sump cooler, probably not by British standards though.

You're not meant to take it if you hit it lol

But your passenger can take it and put it in the boot!

did you have to remove yours to run the intercooler Joe? I'm thinking of following you on the tx autosport cooler for the price of it but maybe buying an ibiza crash bar.

engine will blow itself cold (rubbish heater first thing)

Very dirty engine underneath

I removed mine when i lowered it as it was broke and scraped. I think others have kept it with the kit.

I think they are quite important, so would replace it. They help with fuel efficiency, keeping the engine bay clean, pipes protected and offer a good first defence for the sump.

Lower engine temperature , more noise, oil dripping on your driveway, the possibility of a feline using your engine bay to keep warm, best get another one on there.

Easy access to under engine parts so regular checks of coolant hoses ,boost pipes and anything else under there is a big plus.

My under tray fell off at shell oils corner at Oulton and that's where I left it 6 years ago.

Didn't notice any difference in fuel consuption or how clean the engine stays.

If we were running an F1 car loosing the under tray might affect performance but not on a car designed to go shopping in lol!
