Changing Octavia Vrs for Fabia Vrs

Featured Replies

42mpg from a 130tdi......thats insanely bad. You must have had big problems with that engine what you bought the car
is this aimed at me? I can hit 40 'driving round town' as I stayed, didn't mention anything s out stop start traffic, in the case I would be returning around 32 mpg.

I have a vrs octy and my partner a 2.0 tdi leon. On short commutes there is no difference in economy. You should probably look at a small petrol if you really want to change. Otherwise hold on to your octavia

Going back to mpg, how acurate would you say the computer is on the dashboard that calculates mpg?

The computer on our 2006 Fabia vRS is wildly optimistic on fuel consumption - typically it says 60mpg whereas the reality is 50mpg. If you take a look over on the Fabia I forum this seems to be quite common on the BLT engined Fabia vRS (which a 56 plate car will have). On the other hand our 2010 Octavia vRS TSI gives a very accurate mpg readout.

the range is based on how you have been driving, could have been that they hadn't been driving for very long or just thrashing it. My old Fabia VRS was purcahsed as I had to get rid of my type R. I must have averaged mid 20s in the civic if I was lucky, 300 miles out of a tank was rare, managed 220 a few times, lol but it was bloody good fun. The Fabia averaged 49 in the year I owned it for so it was a means to an end as I needed something cheaper to run.

I now have a pd105 Octavia that is sharked and around town, it is absolutely fine and will hit 40mpg + quite easily. In the 2 and a half years I have owned it I have averaged 51mpg over the last 30,000 miles and with £110 tax and 16" tyres it is much cheaper than my civic and slightly on the Fabia, but so much bigger for my growing family.

Oh and the alloys, they tend to bubble if they have been curbed unless it is a Merc as they are awful. I would say that you want them stripped back so that the bubbling doesn't happen again.

Price doesn't seem too bad, you don't have the hassle of selling private and the dealer is out to make money. Does the Fabia come with a years warranty?

how did you not guess it was petrol, 70bhp less = 200bhp petrol vrs ;)

Yes the Fabia comes with 1 year warranty and all 4 alloys will be resprayed including spoiler and stone damage on bonnet.

Well at least you get the year as painted isn't the best way and the bubbling could come back, dipped would be better

My 05 Mk1 Fabia vRS used to give about 36-38mpg in Winter on mix of crawling traffic/A roads/B roads, 40-42mpg same routes in Summer. Long hauls up A road/ Mway could see 50-53mpg driven with average attention to fuel consumption. Have seen 60mpg though travelling southbound on M1 from Barnsley to Leicester at times (its downhill all the way :) ). The PD130 and the Fabia were a hoot of a combination, my best buy ever, fondly remembered indeed.

The petrol Octy vRS can do around 32-35mpg on same roads with care, but it does require a bit more care to achieve that. A 10 mile commute on quiet B road can see 40mpg if traffic is light. Average overall though is around 29-30 I'd say. Warm engine and little traffic makes huge difference. Yet to try it on a long haul but hoping to see 40+ perhaps.

Next week the schools are all back in action so we'll grind to a halt at 'normal' times - have to go in to work before 7.00am to beat the congestion these days.

Tax costs me £60/year more on petrol Octy, and insurance an extra £20 or so over the Fabia (it is 7 years newer though and consequently higher value). Not sure why the insurance is so little different but that's a perk of being nearer 70 than 20 I guess!

Drive the Octy like it should be driven and the fuel consumption goes rapidly south..... as you'd expect!

Maybe i'll change the alloys for a new set so i don't need to worry about paint bubbling up! :)

Having owned both cars I can truly say if you want to buy a nice car to get good mpgs then buy a New Ford Focus Ecoboost. I will most likely get shot down on here for saying that but I get 38mpg town driving and average 56 mpg on motorways. I save loads on fuel bills,, have warranty so no repair costs and the monthly car payments/insurance are cheaper.

I still love the Mk1 Fabia and having had my Octy VRS at Stage 2+, it was fantastic fun!

or you could negotiate a couple of quid off and get them professionally refurbished. If you get it done properly they will be like new

you want to save, do what bossfox did and buy a Nissan Leaf!
