Does anyone know how to remove/ tighten the centre console arm rest on the octavia mk1, mine rattles on idle and there appears to be no damage and seems relatively solid. If i place my elbow on it the rattle goes away.

Even with music on at a decent amount (mother in-law dislikes this) you can still hear it.

Any advice would be great

You remove the 2 piece plastic cover from the rear of the arm rest base, may have to remove the rear cup holder (can't remember) - there is one hexagonal bolt which holds it, maybe loose?

Is it the top lid that's rattling or the whole thing ?

It seems to be the arm it's self. The one that moves up and down

And will have a look at the rear fixing as mentioned but it seems to be the top bit that rattles

If the top hinged section is rattling could you place a bit of padding between it and the bottom section? Does it rattle from the front or the back?

Does the push lock for raising or lowering still work? When it breaks a small piece of plastic falls inside and rattles. Replacement part is available cheap on the internet (says for a Golf but it is the same). Ask me how I know!

Yeah the button stil works abd the noise seems to come from the hinge itself???

Could still be as I described. When mine broke the plastic clip broke on one side only at first so I could still use the lock button as normal but it felt like it was locking on one side only. The broken plastic clip went to the hinge end when the arm rest was raised the first time so that is why my rattle was at the hinge.

Mine does the same thing, I hate it and never found a solution. If you squeeze the hinge part the squeaky rattle (in my case) goes away. I always wanted to know if there was a no-armrest option/part for the car...

Yes only the higher spec or optional extra cars have them the vrs didn't. I'm sure another member would give you the blank + at least 30 quid your way for yours
