HPI results not good

Featured Replies

Looking at buying my first octy, found my ideal car and did the hpi check. The car is financed but more worryingly it's on some kind of security register and I will be getting a phone call about it. All seems very weired.

Anybody got an idea of what this security register is?

Copied from the link below.

Security watch

This register typically records vehicles at high risk of fraud or theft (e.g. hire cars, demonstrator vehicles and garage forecourt stock). The Security Watch register is primarily used by the Police, finance companies and the motor trade, to ensure that these vehicles can be traced if someone steals them or attempts to sell them fraudulently (for example - perhaps without first settling an outstanding agreement). The registering party will be alerted that an HPI Check has been made, and they should contact you within the next working day, but do contact us if this is not the case. Please note that you should not purchase a vehicle that is recorded on this register, unless you subsequently receive confirmation that it is all clear from either the registering party or us.

Cheers

Out of interest is the car for sale at a dealership?

If so, the outstanding 'finance' could just be a temporary stocking plan.

No eBay

Have you had the call yet?

No, maybe because I called finance company. Can't believe the guy thought I would just trust him to clear the finance when I paid him!

We all live and learn - not least that paying for an HPI check can save a lot of grief. Back to the drawing board?

Yeah, it's first time I've done HPI check and glad I did. I'm going keep looking, wasn't really fussed about getting right now but that one was a good deal or so I thought!
