Octi 2006 elegance auto headlight upgrade?

Featured Replies

Hi all, I have a 56 plate octi elegance which has the lights in the mirrors for the floor lighting which is controlled by the daylight sensor, I do not have the auto headlight on function on the light switch. Now I am thinking, if I change the switch for the one with the option to have them come automatically, would this work? Obviously the sensor and wiring is there, but will the wiring be there for this function?

It's a small thing, but I love my gadgets and if I can easily upgrade my car in any way then I will!

Kind Regards,

Craig!

When I ordered my Octavia from the dealer I specified the extra 'pack' that included the auto lights, auto wipers and dimming mirrors. When I took delivery, the mirror and wipers were auto, but the auto light switch was missing. When the dealer put the order in, it was left off for some reason.

Anyway...to answer your question, no, not for me - they tried just adding the switch and it didn't work. When switched to Auto mode, the lights stayed on all the time. It had to go back a couple of times for new wiring and then coding adjustments. Not to say it can't be retrofitted, just that it'll most likely be more tricky than just replacing the switch.

If your able to borrow (...somehow) an auto switch you could give it a quick test. Removing and fitting it is very easy, see video below:

Many thanks Ross and Mike! Your input has been of great help! If its not much trouble to do, maybe a summers' day will used up playing with it, but I'm not that bothered about it, just thought seeing as the wipers were auto and the lights in the mirrors were auto, maybe it would be a quick switch change!

Well, thank you both again for your help! That vid surprised me, how easy is that switch to get out! Crazy, but well thought out!

Craig.

There are several threads with quite explicit instructions. Search the forum :)
