Detailing a Motorbike

Featured Replies

Some know but I passed my bike test not long ago and bought myself a Suzuki SV650, one owner with only 7500 miles. It's pretty clean so won't take much to make it perfect. Are there any bike related cleaning products that will make it easier? The only two points that need attention are one or two rusty brackets which I'll either replace or try and clean up somehow but aren't that bad. The other is the Exhaust. It's stainless but I can see swirls in it. Is there anything to get rid of them or it just a case of time and lots of Autosol? Don't really want to machine polish as I don't have one.

Welcome to the World of Motorcycles, glad to see more joining!!! in relation to your question, the best way to clean your rusty brackets would be to remove them, and use something like a dremmel with a soft wire attachment to it (depending on size of bracket) as for the exhaust, I dont know of any way to get the swirls out other than what you have suggested, and even then its a stretch to get rid of them.. Tidy bike though, enjoy the rides out when we get some decent weather :-)

Also if the brackets are rusting they are more then likely made of mild steel and will rust again if you don't protect them.

Either paint them or get them nickel/chrome plated. This will give them much more protection and they will last longer.

I'm think of getting some black Hammerite and painting them. Used Hammerite on brake calipers in the past so heat shouldn't be a problem

Remove and powdercoat the brackets.

Should be cheap to do and loads of places do it.

That's a good point. There's a place nearby who refurbs alloys so they could do it.
