Tell me about the 60PS 1.2

Featured Replies

Helping a friend of my mother look at two 1.2 (60PS) Fabias in the local Skoda dealer. Apart from the usual car buying related stuff, is there anything specific to these cars? I think both are 58 or 09 plates and both on similar miles of about 25,000.

Much to know about them?

We have one in addition to the VRSs.

Good around town, nippy for only 60 hp, economy around 45 mpg in any circumstance unless really pushing it.

At its best around 65 mph ie just around 3,000 rpm in 5th.

Seats are a bit naff compared to the VRSs as you would expect.

Having no turbo is a relief as nothing very expensive to go wrong.

Heats up really quickly.

Makes a nice three cylinder exhaust note.

We have had the cam sensor go but was replaced quite cheaply.

Good on tyres of course and are has 15 inches wheels which is good for such a small car.

Bridgestone were really hard and not very grippy so have been buying the wheel and steel rim combo from Skoda and now have 4 wheel tyre sets with Contis and the other rims are going to have winter tyres.

Insurance Group 2 so cheap as chips to insure for the kids.

Happy Days.

 Thanks! :)

My lad has a 59 plate base model with the HTP 70 version of the engine, which will quite happily sit on the motorway at 70, although it is starting to get a little vocal at that speed, otherwise as above really. Cars just had it's third service, other than a faulty door lock; key central locking and loose ARB clamp bolts, which were replaced, everything was sound.

Oh the newer the model you can find the better; my lads car has the later current generation Polo all steel front suspension subframe and wishbones, which I believe was introduced sometime in 09, rather the older Fabia I steel/aluminium set-up and it's much better in terms of ride and handling.

TP

We have the same engine in a VW Fox. Surprisingly lively and good on fuel in local driving. Around 45mpg. Drinks a bit if you go over about 65mph down the motorway. Done a few motorway journeys at a casual 55mph and it turned out over 50mpg.

Agree with lol about the nice 3 cylinder engine note. We also had the cam sensor go, repaired by Skoda at the grand cost of £80. No other problems in 35000 miles.

Simple. Cheap to maintain. Like it a lot.
