Fuel Filter Spec - PD140 BKD

Featured Replies

Just sorting out bits for my service and checked EuroCarParts. It lists 8 different fuel filters though, from a couple of different manufacturers.

Bosch for example, it lists two that are different part numbers and different heights?!

Has anyone got any info on the correct specification please.

Cheers,

Steve

Whenever we get them from our local TPS, we always give them the number on the filter housing which helps them get the correct one.

To add, when replacing the element be meticulous in ensuring that the housing is free from corrosion where the seal sits (fine wet & dry paper will help) and make sure that the seal is fitted correctly.

It's not unknown for leaking diesel to cause the auxiliary belt to disintegrate, in turn getting caught in the cam belt, causing catastrophic engine failure.

Thanks for that. Yes, I'm aware of the potential for that aux belt issue. Not good news!

Do what I do Steve and keep the lid off of the box with the part number on it in the back of your service book ready for next year :-)

That's just too clever Andy, can't be doing with that! ;)

Can I have your service book please? :D

Only if you promise to increase your mileage to 166K!

Is it the type with the Olympic rings on the top, if so I'll dig you the part number out.

Also don't go using a screwdriver to open the lid either as that can cause fuel leaks.

Sure, I wasn't going to go looking for that exact reason :)

This is what is in my 2.0 from Rainworth Skoda for only a few quid more than the ECP ones.

If/when I sell it I have a Skoda invoice for genuine parts fitted by an independent VW specialist.

Phone rainworth direct to check and if you want a few parts cheaper than ebay listings

You are buying: 1 X Genuine Fuel Filter, Please Note Some Models can have up to 3 Different Filters Fitted Please make sure this is the correct one prior to ordering

My BKD engine (2007) had a UFI filter housing and, AFAIK, there is only one on Euro Car Parts website for an Octavia with UFI type.

That's where I ordered mine from and it fitted fine based upon this.

Obviously if yours does not have UFI on the side then that leaves a 50/50 gues (unless you open it up & look at the current one before ordering).

As a contrast, my BKD has a mann humel filter of which there are two styles.

The reason I mention not using the screwdriver is there is a nobble on the lid for this and the workshop manuals used to say do it this way.

I seem to remember that if your filter housing does have a vent screw on the top, then it's not a UFI filter, although somebody more familiar with them might be able to answer that for sure.

My UFI housing doesn't have a vent on top.

Thanks for all the help guys, much appreciated. I'll take a closer look at the housing.

Who knew it would be this difficult, on what is a fairly basic service item!

Just did a double check on the one I got from ECP recently for when I do the annual service. Last year I got it all from Opie (who have a more rigorous filter system to find your exact car) and it only came up with one fuel filter (UFI). Didn't realise there were 2 types/sizes but luckily the Hengst one I bought from ECP is the correct one I need for mine.

Don't know how Opie would know, if I give my chassis number to either TPS or a main dealer they can't tell me which one it is!

Alright picky  maybe not the exact car but it's alot more detailed than ECP asking for the reg (which should realistically be the most accurate) and then bringing up 5 choices of fuel filter. On OPIE it asks for exact year, fuel type, engine size and the particular spec of the car (VRS for example) after putting all that in, there was just one choice of 'correct' filter.

Maybe it is a model year thing and they standardised on later model years.

No,that doesn't work. Neither of mine has the vent screw, but I've got one of each type of filter. Outwardly, the top of the two different canisters are identical.

Right Checked Housings I had access to and as far as I can see there are three filter options:

1 UFI design

2 Mann Humel designs

- The UFI doesn't have a vent.

- One type of Mann doesn't have a vent.

- One type of Mann does have a vent.

So based on that, if you have a vent, it's not a UFI, but not having a vent does not mean it is a UFI.

As per above though, the best way is to check the label on the side you can't read.

I forgot to say, ECP didn't have the one I needed and while they had stacks of them by various manufacturers, they didn't have the 400E type filter I needed when I looked.

Personally, I'd got to a dealer, TPS or GSF for the fuel filter as GSF do the genuine Mann Filters.

I had the same issue with my BKD A3 the local TPS were good they let me have both and return without charge the one I didn't require, I have a shelf where I stapled all of the service parts (labels from boxes) in the garage. That was the last thing I did when I got rid of the A3 to lever off the parts labels from my garage radio shelf.

Think I may have a filter sitting in one of my boxes in the garage still, I know I have an turbo oil line out there for a BKD. Currently empty as the vRS is still under warranty and so the local dealership will service it.

You'll need to check on the housing but my 140 pd 09 plate FL used the purflux C515 from ECP.... I'd also add watch the o rings when you reassemble and even give them a light smear of something to stop any tearing!
