Please help with EML and codes

Featured Replies

So cars been idling rough, can't afford for a mechanic to look at it and play guessing games charging me for stuff I don't need doing. I bought myself a cheap scanner off flea bay and getting some codes any help diagnosing this and sorting the problem is greatly appreciated the codes are

16556

17549

16486

The car idle rough but when driving is fine its affecting my MPG, engine temperature on the dash is fine never goes above or below what it should. If you need anymore info to help you assist me with this problem then please don't hesitate to ask.

All those codes relate to the MAF sensor. Unplug the MAF & if the car runs better you have a goosed MAF. Replace with a genuine VAG part or you'll be buying twice.

Would that cause rough idling aswell? We're is the MAF located and will give it a go

My car is a 2001 skoda octavia estate 1.6 petrol

Coolant temp sensor would be a prime suspect for bad idle. Your temp gauge is not an indication of a fully functioning CTS. The CTS has 2 outputs, one to the guage & the other to the ECU. It's extremely common for one of the outputs to fail. If the ECU side goes down the ECU will not fuel correctly i.e. poor idle or poor hot or cold starting are common symptoms of this. VAG revised the CTS to the later green sensor because the old black type failed so often. It's essential to replace with a genuine VAG part & not a cheap ebay/aftermarket part.
