octavia 2.0 tdi advice

Featured Replies

Hi

Iam just considering purchasing an Octavia Elegance 2.0 tdi estate on a March 06 plate with 72000 on the clock for a private hire vehicle. I currently run a 1.9 tdi Ambient on an 03 plate with 240000 on the clock , it's proven to be a great car just replacing the usual wear and tear items hence getting another one.

The question I've got is ,the one Iam looking at apparently has the 2.0 litre engine before PD? I always thought that all mk 2 octavia 2 litres have the PD engine apparently not? , has this engine been proven reliable or does it have any known common faults ? Which engine be it 1.9 or 2.0 is the most reliable around the 06 07 plate? The trouble being on the taxis is you hear so much crap, you would never buy another car again, the VW 2.0 litre engines are crap etc etc etc.

Any pointers greatly appreciated as I don't fancy making an expensive mistake .

Thanks in advance.

as far as I know you are correct, later cars had CR engines

On an 06 it will be a PD engine.

The pre-PD versions were only used on the Mk1.

I believe the turbo on the PD140 isn't as reliable as the 1.9 PD105 (quite a few failed including mine) but it's far from a disaster area.

For a taxi get the 1.9 as it is bomb proof apart from the DMF, but at least you can get a SMF conversion that is proven.

PD 2.0 is fine. Regular oil changes rather than the variable 18k miles are better. The 1.9 is less problematic but if you carry 4 passengers and luggage and do airport runs etc you will be better with a 2.0.

Most of the 2.0 problems are turbo related. I recently had my original turbo re-furbished for £ 500. Should be good for another 100k miles. Most garages replace which costs more.

All cars have their problems but the 2.0PD is in many VW/Audi/Skoda and its few problems and solutions are well discussed on Briskoda.

The 1.9 was cheaper than the 2.0 so more popular.

Thanks for the replies, the engine number starts BKD if that is any help.

2.0 tdi 140 PD it is then. Great car apart from the turbo which I had replaced at 38k and now I'm changing the dmf and clutch at 65k. Lovely and smooth otherwise with plenty of power as standard, remapped even better but things will need replacing sooner with the added grunt.

My DMF was replaced at 130,000kms under warranty. I now have 556,000kms on the car. Mines a DSG if that helps with your decision.
