how can i find out what part has been put on my car

Featured Replies

My cars been fixed up by the insurance and so far I am not happy with the quality.

But one thing that i am unsure on is the wing mirror, when I have searched the part number on the works list it comes up electric mirror. The one that was on was electric and heated, also the glass seems to be tinted where as the one I still have isnt.

Anyone know the part number for electric and heated mirror?

if you are un happy you need to be contacting the insurance

ive never been in an accident nor had to have my car repaired but wouldnt you recieve some sort of reciept or damage report when the car is returned?

As far as I am aware if it's electric it's heated as well.

Its the reciept that ive been checking the part codes against, thats when I found its just listed as electric not electric and heated. Wasnt sure if there were different ones as on my old car electric was just the movement and heated was extra. And as for mirror been tinted there is no part code on receipt apparently it all comes as one unit.

This is my first accident it wasnt my fault and its been a right pain so far. I had quotes from 4 garages before insurance sent me to theirs and all 4 quoted cheaper than what its cost to replace the front wing.

The insurance garage have tried to repair it and although from a couple meters it looks ok, i can feel on the panel where filler has been used and also there is a bit they couldnt pull fully into shape. But when i tried to tell them before repair I wanted a new wing and that a new wing would be cheaper, apparently its policy to repair first and replace after if its no good.

And people wonder why insurance costs go up.

Insurance Companies use their own body shops to get the cheapest way out and are more interested in bodging the damage rather than replacing, that's what I experienced a few years ago, together with coffee stains all over the passenger seat.

I was so incensed at the codge repair, I got the insurance technical inspector to visit my home in order that I could point out the unacceptable work. I stipulated which body shop I would like it rectified at and they agreed, in the end it was as new, but far too much hassle to get it sorted.

So, beware specify your own choice of body shop and don't accept their specified specialised repair depot.

feel the glass, after a drive , it`ll be warm if heated

Thanks for your advice its been really stressful so far. Got insurance engineers coming to look next week. So hopefully be sorted, funniest thing is once you add upp the labour hours and costs on repairing the wing it would have been cheaper to replace it. As for mirror i will try leaving it on for a bit and feeling if its hot.
