Front wheel bearing

Featured Replies

Hi all, I suspect one defective wheel bearing on front passenger side, getting a humming noise when I turn to one side and then it becomes quiet when I turn the other way.

My question is can I tighten the bearing ? if yes ...how ?

No it can't be tightened, it'll need to be replaced.

Most people on here will say use a genuine one only but any of the top bearing brands will be fine IMO

You need a press to get old bearing out of hub and new one in again

Best left to a garage that know what they're doing

There is a problem with non-genuine ones at the moment...

Some FAG, SKF, NSK, etc are inferior Chinese copies

There is a big difference between OE quality and aftermarket quality from well known manufacturers. e.g. UK SKF made bearings seem fine but the Brazilian ones are not.

Only buy from a trusted source - VAG or otherwise.

David at Sere motors will do you a genuine one for less than £40 delivered to your door - daft to OE at that price

I don't think I paid anymore than that from my local TPS for a genuine one last year.

yes but this helps those whose local TPS won't deal to them or is too far away - the £40 includes postage you know!

It'd cost me around £20 round trip in fuel and 2 hrs to go to my local TPS, and even then I wouldn't even be sure if they'd sell to me or what price they'd do it at!
