Where do you go for parts?

Featured Replies

Hello all,

I'm hoping you will be able to help.i drive a 2008 fabia 1 and the drivers side window switch has been water damaged. I'm only just starting to get into fixing my car (just serviced it for the first time last month) but have no idea where to get the part. I have been all over the net looking for suppliers but can't find it anywhere (not even eBay). Do any of you have any advice on where to go for parts like this? I live in manchester if that helps.

Thanks in advance guys,

Joe.

Have you tried your local salvage/ breakers yard? I always check mine first as usually very cheap.

Hi, I've called all the ones I found online but nothing and I'm not aware of any others in/near manchester. I've even looked on the online parts sites and nothing...

Is it the same a switches in a Golf? I have window switches from a MK 3, I can let you have one, post a picture up of it. I will compare to the one I have

Find your local breakers, Manchester will have lots.

Whatever you want the first place you call is the dealers parts desk. They'll give you a price, from that you can decide if it's even worth trying to source it used, you'll also know if someone is trying to charge you more for a used part. Breakers don't have a set price list and knowing how much the new part is can be the difference between getting a bargain and getting shafted. Some breakers let you get your own parts but they're getting fewer as time goes by ('elf and safety), you tend to spend more for bits off the shelf but it's not like when I was a kid and used to climb about on piles of cars 3-4 high.

Car transplants is not too far from Manchester, they also offer warranty and mail order too

I've found a BMW breakers near me like this - I was in heaven in there foraging around for stuff! And the cars weren't double stacked, which made it easier

FWIW, I think I paid about £35 for a similar VW part for my Polo a couple of years back from VW themselves. . .

Pimhole Lane in bury has 10 or so scrap yards. It's 5 mins on the motorway from Manchester.

If you want new, try TPS Stockport they can be cheaper than main dealer.

The switch looks as though it's from a MK2 Fabia. In the past I've found them quite easy to take apart, clean the contacts and reassemble.

Hi ford fan. Yes, I got some cleaning alcohol and cleaned everything and when I put it back in it got the drivers window down but then stopped again.... No idea what's going on but it must just be done in.
