Coils Again

Featured Replies

It's time for a 40,000 service and spark plugs are due to be replaced , on a 1.8T 4*4 .

I have had 3 coils replaced - " J" type were fitted as replacements and no further problems for a year now .

Are there any newer versions available , with what pre- or su-ffix , and would it be wise to replace the "J" variant ? ..... bearing in mind that I seem to remember that the price was drastically revised downwards ?

The J has now been replaced by the L (06B 905 115 L) which dealers should be able to obtain since late July. Cars produced since around June 2003 are fitted with the 06A 905 115 A - which is not listed as being suitable for earlier cars. The price of the L is

Please excuse my ignorance, but did Skoda ever do a recall for this problem?

The reason I ask is I took my car in for a service in May of this year (18k variable) and nothing was ever said to me by the service manager, but then I never asked either.

I have never had any problem with the coil packs on my car (touch wood) and after the service have had no problems.

The car was booked in for service early as I had a warning light come on saying my water was low. I checked and the header tank was on minimum, so when they serviced it they re-sealed the thermostatic switch (diagnosis of pressure test) under warranty.

I don't think they replaced the coil packs, as it would have said on the invoice.

No, Skoda UK has never put out a recall for the coil packs, much to the annoyance of everyone. You can easily check them yourself though.

Thanks Q,

If they aint broke, and I still have the AA cover/warranty then I won't worry too much.

It is annoying though considering the position of the other vw brands.

thank you all for your prompt and informative replies .

As far as I am aware - no VAG company in the UK has launched a recall - official or otherwise - we have been allowed to replace set's of 4 coils on a very limited number of cars - based I think on number of previous failures -- but I'm talking less than 10 cars...........

Dave, is the L version in stock yet, and if so is there are major difference in appearance from the H and J?
