Hi guys I've just bought a mk1 Fabia vrs (to sit along side my mk2 vrs) and when I'm parking or turning the wheel at slow speeds the steering makes a groaning/creaking sound,does anyone know what it could be?

Top mounts or springs are my first thoughts, is it standard?

yeah its totally standard (for now lol)

I have a slightly seized top mount that makes a soft "clang" when turning past the centrepoint on the steering. Could be something similar?

is it like a slight clunking sound, something like running a wooden stick up and down the spring, this happened to me and i have changed the top mount bearing passenger side and now the other side has gone.

So sounds like a need to get my top mounts looked at. Thanks for the advice guys.
