Slight thud/thump engaging gears Vrs tdi

Featured Replies

The wife noticed a small issue the last week in traffic, when u engage first gear u can hear/feel a very slight thud or thump, sitting idle u can get it to do it in any gear slightly, otherwise gearbox perfectly smooth no issue at all, also this thud is there when car is hot or cold. If u go into gear slowly u can't hear it.

Iv never really noticed as I alway have clutch engaged in traffic.

I might change gear oil anyway.

Car is 07 Vrs diesel. 80k miles.

Anyone else heard this?

What's the best gearbox oil and do I need 75w 90, fully or semi synthetic?

A dragging clutch perhaps...

Is the bite point almost immediately on raising the pedal?

If so I'd be inclined to bleed brake/clutch fluid and if symptoms persist have a mechanic look at it, maybe the master/slave cylinder seals are worn.

Deleted due to duplication.

I had a new dmf, clutch and slave cylinder in the summer and the clunky/notchy ness was there before so it can't be any of those.

It feels like a delayed engagement but only in the first two gears but not always.
