Variable servicing oil

Featured Replies

Hi all, just wondered if any one could tell me which oil it is and how much I need for a Superb 2.0Tdi 170 4x4 on variable servicing, tried the halfords website and that can't match it. I have read its VW507.00 is that correct, also where is the oil filter?

Cheers

Hi,

You'll need 4.3 litres

As just said before, Castrol is one of the best choices you have

Don't forget to keep some for top-ups between services.

Castrol Edge 5W30 507.00 last seen in my local Asda @ £37 for 4 ltrs

Cheers Mate, Ordered, Great price, £28.49, amazingly from EuroCarParts who have it at £48.98 on there website! Con that they have started doing 4 litres bottles now, especially when 1 litre is nearly £15

Try pricing up VW groups Quantum longlife 3 oil from a dealer near you. It is oil designed specifically for your cars engine and sometimes they can offer you a good deal

Cheers for all the advice, again without wanting to sound simples but where is the oil filter located, On my old Superb it was right on top of the engine and you used a large oil filter socket to open the housing, all I can see on this one that looks possible is just to the right on the front of the engine a black topped housing with a 32mm molded nut with 25.5nm embossed on it, thats my best guess at where the oil filter is.

Cheers again

To add just found a very handy video on you tube of someone doing an oil change on a Jetta with the same engine and it is infact the oil filter.

That is your oil filter, use a socket the type for impact tools, not the normal 12 point socket, these do not bear enough on the plastic top. Use a torque wrench to tighten.

When draining the oil loosen the top of the filter and the filter housing will drain back into the sump. Be careful of oil running from filter on removal, makes a terrible mess.Take careful note of the seals and the filter assembly on removal, and ensure the new filter is assembled correctly.

Quantum Longlife is or used to be produced by Castrol, so Castrol Edge is the same. Under the VW name it is always cheaper.

Cheaper than the £28.49 for 4 litres of Castrol Edge 5W30 507.00 i just got from Amazon thanks to the link above from DCC, I would bet theres pennies in it. thanks again DCC

Quantum longlife lll 5w - 30 507.00 5L £28.74 = £1.37 a ltr cheaper

Also if you buy it by the litre bottle it costs a lot more!

By the way, "conforms to standard VW507.00" is not the same as "approved to standard VW507.00".

One is a claim, the other is a verifiable fact.
