Its open! After lots of jiggerling the boot and pressing buttons it opened! Ive put some more grease on the catchs but apart from that I cant see whats caused it! I did notice that on a couple of occasions during the last few days when i closed the boot the boot open light would still be on on the dash, i would get out open it and close again and it would be fine then. Any way would be good to know if something may be on its way out or just one of those things??, its working fine now, ive tried it s few times but would be good it if it stayed ok.

Cheers

It is probably the boot latch needing adjustment or the boot solenoid is about to give up (mine did) A new solenoid from a Main Dealer was about £30 IIRC and a ten minute job to replace. I would also take your lower boot trim off if the lock is playing up. That way you can easily open the boot ,using the internal latch, from the inside of the car when you tilt the rear seats forward.

Occasionally you might catch something in the boot when you close it, sleave of a coat, strap of a bag etc.

This is enough to stop mine opening again once closed tight. What you need to do then is climb into the boot from the inside of the car with a big dirty flat head screw driver, pop off the cover covering the lock mechanisim and you'll see a knib/knob that you can prise with the screw driver... voila, boots open :)

Pain in the arse but means you're not stuck!

Thanks guys, seems ok at the moment but will keep an eye on it. I hope the loss of coolant is also going to be an easy fix

a bit late but mine's been playing up for a while with the same symptoms you described. Mechanical 'tired' sound but won't open.

Here's the fix that sorted mine.

1) Remove boot trim

2) Undo the three M8 spline bolts, remove and unplug the lock.

3) Gently scrape off the corrosion on the three contact pins, and spray in a little WD40 and also a bit in the plug, wipe dry and refit.

Boot opens first time every time now on the key fob or using the handle above the number plate :)

My boot is being a bit temperamental with opening. I have found if I push down on it and push the fob or the handle above the number plate it opens every time. Think I might have to reposition the boot release ever so slightly.
