Strut Top Mounts?

Featured Replies

hi all Bought a set of the mk4 poly lowering strut top mounts which i have decided not to fit and am now selling as my car nearly catches going up and down the street near my house as stock so decided lower is a no goer :( so let me know if anyone interested lol my question is are stock mk4 ones worth re fitting or would you use the stiffer leon cupra r ones for the increased life on them???? twice the money about 26 quid each plus the vat and the bearing than the mk4/octavia stock items ?

any one used or got any advice as i kill even dealer ones in not much over a year or do they just need nipping up once bedded in ????

What about powerflex ones, stiffer without going lower

Hi Buddy In answer to your question.

Absolutely no point fitting MK4 ones as the same as Skoda and VRS ones.

If you want stiffer OEM then yes go for LCR ones. I have them fitted although you pay quite a bit more for them as you mentioned. They will last longer.

No they don't need nipping up. The torque is set on the suspension and they don't get loose they just get sloppy and the rubber causes more movement.

The idea of the poly bush top mounts is to use with coilovers or adjustable suspension so as the poly bushes are approx 10mm shorter you can raise the coilover platform 10mm more, giving same height as before but a better shock travel and more comfortable ride on low cars. Does not allows work that way, as poly is stiffer than the OEM rubber.

If you don't have adjustable suspension then yes the poly bush will just mean car sits 10mm lower.

yeah i think i may go powerflex rather than the psi/poly bush ones so if anyone is after a set in box me , i have h and r springs but fancy koni sports shocks to go with them so powerflex may be best :)

You dont have the part numbers for the lcr topmounts do you?

think they are 1ML 412 331 :) PR-G92 build code rather than 1j0412331c

Leon Cupra R are 1ML412331 have them on my car....

Cheers. Wot sort of money do they go for?

Tnx! Can you use these with standard VRS bearings? As mine needs replacement... Will order new cups to I think...

Yes buddy exact same bearing part number across the VAG group.

I am considering ditching my LCR top mounts as the ride is quite harsh on short bumps in the road (like bits of trees under tarmac) with my 18” tyres and AP suspension.
