Flashing glow plug light

Featured Replies

Ok, story is, long trip up M1, sat at 70 on cruise control.

Something on the dash caught my eye and when I looked down the glow plug light was flashing, this continued for about 10 seconds then went out and didn't return for the rest of the journey (circa 75 miles).

No other warning lights, no loss of power/limp mode or any signs whatsoever of a problem and happened after being sat on the M1 for around 75miles so car was warmed up etc.

I am hoping something has been logged when I get around to scanning it, but in the meantime does anyone have any ideas?

Car is a 2.0 pd tdi scout so has a DPF, but no DPF warning light appeared at any point.

Many thanks for any ideas.

Possibly exhaust pressure sensor?

My experience with this is this happened to me fr a little while, then eventually the engine check light came on and dpf... Ended up having the dpf removed and remapped but this didn't cure the problem.

Turned out the turbo actuator became faulty, the diaphragm in the actuator split, this then meant the turbo stopped working properly and the dpf ended up getting knackered because the car could not regen....

More than likely its related to your brake light switch. First thing is to check if your brake lights are working. I had flashing glow plug light a few weeks ago and even though my brake lights were still working the switch was on its way out as it showed up with a diagnostic scan. New switch sorted it.

Thanks for the replies, hope it's the break switch and not turbo/DPF as cant really afford a big bill.

I will get vcds on at the weekend and see what it says.
