momentem99 v shell vepower nitro,

Featured Replies

hi all, ive been putting in momentem99 now for a few weeks, love the fuel but i did notice on my onboard computer i was only getting around 36 and never really moved, and i do a bit of motorway driving, but still stays around that figure, now i thought ok lets try this new shell fuel, after filling up a few times and let the car get used to this new fuel, and bingo, onboard comp now reads well over 40 to the gallon, Am i right in thinking that nitro is 99octain?, has anybody found this out when using these two fuels.

  • That must be why the fuel economy improves, less weight

  • I used the 102 RON stuff when we went on the prague trip last year, and the car loved it... it flew.

  • The good thing with most Private Owner Drivers and even many Business users is, that they fill up where they want to. If a driver knows the car or different cars, they can easily try what ever fuel t

I find that 99 octane is the same from what ever brand.

102 RON in Europe is even better.

Sainsbury Super Unleaded at 98 RON is fine for normal driving and about the same price as 95 RON some places.

the weather is getting warmer and you might find the economy improves anyway.

adjust or at least check your tyre pressures now that the ambient temp is maybe up.

remember to reset or check your TPMS.

(even tho it might well be very cold again come this weekend)

Sainsburys ain't 98, it's 97

Thanks, i did think that and its what it says, MIN 97 RON.

(i do not use it in a Twincharger)

I asked the Tanker Driver where he was coming from (which Depot) and when their winter Fuel run from.

(in Scotland)

Nov-March.?

He said it was 15th-OCT - 15th April and he uses it as the Winter Fuel was 98 RON.

Ive also seen a similar improvement in my fuel economy over the last couple of weeks but ive put it down to the weather warming up. The type of fuel I use has remained the same. :)

Slightly off-topic but just out of interest what kind of mpg are you getting out of the 323bhp Yeti? I bet that must be one awesome sleeper lol!

I'd put it down to other factors, both Tesco and Shell are doing 99RON with different additives.

The biggest difference is the marketing.

Around town Im seeing 32mpg. It can achieve 40+mpg on an easy speed legal cruise and the best I get at 60mph is 50+mpg! Just to keep it on topic, I only ever use V power over here and 102ron whenever available (which it absolutely loves).

BTW, I have a 99RON map on my car and it runs just as well on Tesco Momentum or Shell V Power.

Some owners say thier cars run better than one or the other, but they seem the same to me.

No economy difference that I can spot either.

Only thing I noticed compared to Momemtum 99 and VPower was my wallet was a bit lighter after filing up with VPower.

Today in Aberdeen where they have long pockets and short arms.

45 litres costs.

Supermarket 95 RON... £59.86

Sainsbury Super (97 RON) ... £61.60

Tesco Momentum 99... £62.05

Shell V Power 99... £63.85

Where do you get 102 RON in Herts BTW? I'd be keen on trying it out!

You can't, it's not easily available in the UK.

Wasn't it used to be available as BP Ultimate 102 RON?

A few years back, they did trial it, yes. Think circa 2007.

100, 101 and I think 102 RON available in Germany

is it? I usually fill up with V power racing and that's 100 Ron in Germany iirc. Italy is always good for 100 Ron rated Shell V Power also (it's not cheap however!). Overall though, I think the UK does ok with what's offered. :)

And when cruising it always gives me the best mpg on any trip! :)

Meh, get some Ether and Castor Oil - no more oil drinking and good power on the cheap - 5% should suffice. Mind you, I did melt con rods in one of the best 125cc motors I had - perhaps too much of the juice was used

I work at the refinery in Scotland and we supply all of the petrol in the country. Plus some parts of Northern England. Now I'm not privy to the lab results but what I do know is all the base fuels across the brands are the same. The only difference is the additives added to the petrol as it is loaded into the tanker.

Also when you see 95RON on the forecourt it can actually be anywhere between 93 and 97. Similarly for super (97) which is anywhere between 95 and 99.

My local petrol stations are Esso and Tesco. The Esso is selling 97 RON Super and Tesco Momentum 99. I see no difference between the fuels and I don't really expect to.

If your car is mapped to take advantage of the 99 RON there will only be a marginal improvement.

RON is rather crap indicator in any case, MON should be really used, or both really. RON is a good knock resitance indicator for low load cruising and MON for high load higher rpm.

In general the more kock resistance (or detonation resistance) the leaner AFR can get and more spark advance can be run meaning more power.

Do you know by any chance what additives go into summer blend right now?

BTW, does anybody know if use of nitromethane is legal on public roads?
