Big trouble if fuels do not reach Minimum Standards when being sold and tested from the pump.

Lots of Duty & VAT being paid for the product and its fraud if the product does not meet the required minimum.

Its as bad as selling under the measure with alcohol or selling under measure with fuel.

Its 'Fraud'.

Do you know by any chance what additives go into summer blend right now?

Unfortunately not.

That just looks like normal <10ppm sulphur ULSP. The extra performance will come from the additives.

That will maybe the greater percentage of Bioethanol giving the 99ron over the 95ron.

Or somebody that knows the science can explain maybe.

Its not about MAP, as in something re-mapped in the case of the Twincharger ,

other than the recommended fuel is 98 ron, for the MAP the car came from the factory with..

Just spotted the typo in my earlier post. I meant to say a car needs to be mapped to suit the higher RON petrol or you won't see much improvement.

Would be good to have something like the old Red Rose map that TVR had. You could toggle between different maps to suit what you had filled her up with.

APR does that. From your cruise control stalk you can change between 4 different maps. vRSy is their customer and has it installed to his vRS. ECU can to some extent adapt to what you fill up with.

Cars see to be running sweeter on the vpower nitro ? Placebo ?

I tried Nitro last night, it appears to be disappearing quicker... Definite placebo

Looks like the setup my mate had on his Mk VI R. He had about seven options selectable from the cruise stalk. Very slick operation and some serious boost to the power.

I think I'll try this Nitro+ stuff next few tanks and see if I notice any changes. Might be something to it.

With the warmer weather my mpg on regular journeys is noticeably better; probably 2-4 mpg.

Tony :hi:

I've just had my best ever average MPG figure of just under 45mpg calculated brim to brim for a full tank, and that's almost all my daily short 20 mile total commute. Combination of the warmer weather and the new V Power? Will need a few more tanks to see if it is any better, and hard to tell as it does match up with the better weather.

I've currently got a full tank of this new VPower in. Doesn't feel any different to Momentum and economy is about the same.

I believe that Tesco momentum contains more ethanol than Shell V power , not sure about Shell Nitro as Shell are notoriously cagey about their "recipe" its widely accepted that V power was around 1% despite some online sources claiming 5% like Tesco, also Shell fuel has more cleaning agents added so for older cars like my weekend toy I choose to use Shell rather than Tesco.

When I used to map my own cars I found Shell was slightly better than Tesco 99 but for any factory map I very much doubt there would be any difference.

Problem is there is pressure to increase the levels of ethanol in line with EU green targets so petrol is probably as good as its going to get at the moment

^^^ As above.

Not long until things change.

(but i would still use Momentum or Tesco Fuel over Shell products even if they were the same price,

as they are rather more open on the subject,

& i am old enough to remember the Shell Detergent problems when they first introduced it to Unleaded.)

Seems like ancient History now when we changed to Unleaded.

Funnily cars seemed to get OK MPG & performance back in the day.

is it? I usually fill up with V power racing and that's 100 Ron in Germany iirc. Italy is always good for 100 Ron rated Shell V Power also (it's not cheap however!). Overall though, I think the UK does ok with what's offered. :)

Apparently 101 at Aral stations (one close to me over here doesn't do super at all; 95 and diesel only). V-power racing at the Shell I use is definitely 100 but sure I've seen 102 somewhere. Might be near the 'ring although I've never been there.

You don't need to be very old to remember the cars getting damaged by Tesco fuels wrecked lambda sensors and cats

I remember ones like this where the wrong fuel is in wrong tanks and that happens with all brands.

Cant remember a problem with Tesco fuels formulation.

EDIT,

Sorry, found what you are maybe talking about.

http://www.petrolpri...nated-fuel.html

This one seems to be effecting not only Tesco but other Supermarket Fuel as well.

I think Morrisons and Asda were the one that got the worst press a few years back - but that was the high Sulphur content IIRC? Certainly gave supermarket fuel a bad press for a while.

Just as an aside, I had to half fill my tank with 95 this last tank (run out of Momentum99) and I have noticed the difference; on the same hill at the same speed, it now changes down to D3 instead of pulling up in D4 as it did last week. Doesn't feel as perky either but thats to be expected. Be glad to get some Super back in the tank!

The good thing with most Private Owner Drivers and even many Business users is, that they fill up where they want to.

If a driver knows the car or different cars, they can easily try what ever fuel they want and see if the notice any difference.

It seems hardly worth asking others what suits them, if their circumstances or expectations are different.

The more miles you drive and different locations you visit, the more chance you get to try different fuels.

(My local Franchise Filling Station never gets my Business because he is too quick to up prices at times of shortage and once profiteered in a ridiculous way at the time of the worst shortages.)

Back when there was the "Formula" Shell debarcle it was suggested that the fuel knackered Vauxhall Cavalier engines ye the company I worked at during this time had a fleet of 1.6 Cavaliers covering in excess of 35,000 per year that were refuelled predominantly on formula Shell since it was the nearest garage and we had fuel cards and after 3 years and over 100k they were all hunky dory , went through a few clutches and head gaskets but the engines were in tip top shape , unusually so in fact

Thats were my old age means,

i remember back to the likes of the198o's and the Police Car engine failures and Shell fuel being blamed,

but i forget or never remembered in the first place about 2007.

george

I think the problem was that the fuel back then was mixed by the tanker drivers , in other words the additive was poured in after bulking the tanker up that obviously introduces a lot of room for error

Nowadays v power is blended at the refinery

For reference, went past an Aral station last night and their Super was listed as 102RON. About the same price as Shell V-power racing (€1.72 or so).

well since i filled up with this nitro stuff first few yards from a cold start i now get a misfire, just the once though and then fine after that

never happened in the previous 15k on bp 95 and 97, ive almost emptied the tank so ill see what happens when i go back to bp fuel
