Hello all - Going to view a 2.0 T FSI vRS.. anything I need to know

Featured Replies

Evening gents

Hope you are all well and a friendly bunch.

Got a 5 series at the moment but with 105k and some work needing done on it, I'm thinking of trading it in.

Going to look at a Skoda Octavia 2.0 T FSI vRS 5-Dr Hatchback tomorrow at local dealers. Only 3k on the clock on a 62 plate.

Initial reading things that I can't see on the initial details on the website are - no bluetooth for phone, no sat nav and I've read about the Injector recall which I will ask about.

Anything else to consider??

Thanks again!

Injector recall nit applicable to petrol. I had a 523i and pound for pound you will be pleasantly surprised. If you compare it directly with your BMW you will probably not like it. Performance-wise they're ok. Mine is not the TSI which you're interested in. A newish 525i did not make mincemeat of me a few months ago. Finally I let

him go and In desperation to get past a van in front he went for an overtake in a stupid place after I sat back. Have a drive and see what you think.

Cheer for the information.

Need to shift the 530d - 105k on the clock and some work needing done on it (circa £2k or so) Also tyres pushing £200 a corner etc. I'm no badge snob - don't need the size of the 5 series now.

Presumably it's from a main dealer, so there'll be some kind of warranty?

Push for an extended warranty (5 years) and you should be laughing. it will be worth

the extra or negotiate it into the price. The techy bits and pieces can be easily retro fitted

and coded in, again main dealer can add these things if you want them.

Or have aftermarket versions added instead. After a remap it's a pretty lively

engine, you should see 250 odd bhp from a stage 1.

Anyone got any real world figures on the TDI vrs versus the FSI vrs??

Info says combined around 37.7mpg for petrol and 49.6 for diesel. I do around 15k per year mileage wise so some quick maths says I'd be better of by about £525 a year getting a diesel but generally these are more expensive like for like ages/mileage etc to purchase in the first place.

The petrol will do around 32 to 34 for a manual, pushing high 30's on a motorway run. My commute is half motorway half back roads and I get circa 30mpg, but mine is a DSG.

I can't help with diesel figures, I'd never have one it's the fuel of Satan I'd have a petrol any day, higher cost or not. I think you'd need to do much more than 15k for it to really be worth going with diesel for cost reasons.

cheers JB. thanks for the info.

FSI sounds nicer when you rev it :D

So using maths.. if you have to pay £1500 more for a diesel model of same age/spec.. then you would ideally want to keep it for more than 3 years to outweight the extra cost.. Don't forget to bring tax costs into this.. as the diesel is cheaper than the petrol (not sure on the exact figures I'm afraid).

My advise.. take them both for a test drive and which ever one you feel happiest with.. Buy :)

Cheers Taylor - love the electric blue colour and will be test driving the petrol one on saturday.

Struggling at the moment to find a similar colour/mileage one in the diesel version to try.

Closest is a white one, 30 miles away from me with 8k on the clock (compared to 3k) and it's 6 months less warranty left.

The tax difference as far as I can see is £200 for the petrol and £130 for the diesel so neither here nor there if I'm honest.

I get 47.9 miles....a very economic car. £145 road tax......and I love it! :)

It will be a Tsi Engine

And I hope the car is painted Yellow

Are they twincharged then?

+1 on the above. I'm getting an average of around 48mpg from my CR. Yes they are more expensive to buy, but if long term costs are a factor the CR is the best choice financially. 135 vs 245 VED, 2 groups lower on insurance and it also wins the depreciation and fuel cost contest too, which are the 2 biggest costs. Don't forget at 15k a year in 3 years time the CR won't depreciate as much as the petrol so you'll recover some of that initial extra cost. However.... What's important is you get the car which is best for you. Test drive them both then decide, don't think you'll be dissapointed either way TBH.

Drove the petrol today - lovely car. Easy cruiser @ 70mph on dual carriageway and very responsive on the b roads. Handling felt good, plenty of poke and comfy. Can't find a suitable diesel within about 60 miles at the moment to test drive.

Waiting on a p/x figure for my 5 series and i'll see where that leads me but very impressed and fairly taken with the car
