Kenwood DNX 520BT - Do i need an amp?

Featured Replies

Hi Folks

Im running the above HU in my Octy and have also changed the front speakers to some (TS-H1703)

http://www.pioneer.eu/uk/products/25/131/201/TS-H1703/specs.html

.....and quite frankly it sounds awful, way to much treble and literally no bass?

The speakers are rated at 50w RMS and the HU 50w RMS but ive read some where the HU rating might be a bit optomistic? possibly only really pushing out 15-20 wRMS??

Would it be advisable to amp the fronts and if so could someone point me in the direction of a cheapish...amp.

Thanks in advance!!

Hi Daz

I've got the above head unit and am running an Audison SR4 amp to power the front speakers. It sounds great with plenty of bass (the speakers are Rainbow SL6.2s).

If you're looking for a cheapish amp, have a look on ebay. Genesis and DLS amps are highly valued over on the Talk Audio forum and often come up for reasonable money (obviously, depending what you consider reasonable!)
