An era is coming to an end...

Featured Replies

As my car today hit 425000 km or 265625 miles i can safely say, that i've never had problems with the engine. Sadly the past year has been too expensive for me to maintain everything else than the engine itself. Various parts breaking and stops working, while every time i have put money into it that i don't have. The recession, for me, has been extremely hard and still is and i can't afford to keep the car running at the costs of repairing it.

Therefore, soon, i'll say goodbye to it. As written i never ever had problems with the engine. It's been chipped for all of it's miles giving about 180hp from it's original 130. Last year when it all started it was the clutch. Then it just kept coming, like every month. 2012 alone i put £7500 into replacing parts and labor to the workshop, which isn't much, trust me.

I'm afraid of telling which car i chosen as a replacement because i'm pretty sure rotodiesel would drive all the way to Denmark and kick my ass if he finds out. So let's just say it's something nice.

Anyways i will of course stay with this forum, since you guys are the best.

That's a very impressive mileage! Is the car worth more than what you paid out for repairs in 2012?

Not even close i'm afraid.

It's a great shame, but all cars get to this stage eventually - lots of parts all showing wear. Whilst I sympathise with the costs involved at a difficult time, from a technical point of view it's good to see that my faith in the 1.9 PD engine has been justified - what a great pity the later engines (or the V6) are not as good.

With any car, it's a hard call to decide when to jump off - maybe you held on just a bit too long.

You'll have to tell us what the replacement is - I'm not planning a trip to Denmark this year, although I'd be delighted to visit...

rotodiesel.

Fair play on the mileage and dare I say it that the remap will have shortened the life of some components that you have had to replace.

I am personally falling short of your mileage at 243,000 but I am determined to make the 250,000 on all the original running gear that the Superb came with out of the factory, bar the wheels and suspension..........:)

As rotodiesel has said, you may as well tell us what will be replacing the Superb ;)

Sorry to see you go man. Good luck with the Golf.

Make sure you check DPF is all good or has good guarantee. Seems like very low mileage for a 2011 diesel with DPF, I'd be worried DPF might be clogged.

,Thx i'll keep it in mind.

It is a lot, trust me, it is!!

Crikey, I'm amazed .... can you give us a run down of how it managed to swallow that much cash without the engine giving any problems?

I could give it a try later, when i have more time. I need to look at and translate all parts from the invoices.

Ah, but the difference beween the V6 and 1.9 PD engine are like the difference between Holly Willoughby and Janet Street-Porter.

One is smooth, rounded and voluptuous with a just a hint of naughty pleasure .... and the other is guaranteed to go on forever. :notme:

Good news! We were out for a longer test drive of the Golf today, where the wife complained about the feel and quality about the car. In stead we've managed to get a great deal on the new Skoda Octavia 4/2013 1.6 TDI 105hp, with the even newer VW engine with better mpg, acceleration and tax properties.

We're taking delivery in 1 month time.
