Wet sanding

Featured Replies

Was thinking about doing this on my octavia to get rid of the orange peel effect vag cars seem to suffer with.

I know wet sanding should be a last resort, so should I try compounding it first? Not sure if this will get rid of the orange peel affect of the paint.

If I do wet sand anyone got any recommendations on which grit to use? I did wet sand a car about a year ago to get a scratch out for my dads friend when that had an accident with a gate, but for the life of me I can't remember what grit I used.

I did a bit in mine last year. I started with 2000 then 2500 after then machine polished to finish.

Mine is a metallic though so was being careful.

Its important to measure the paint thickness before attempting this

Whilst I agree with this, if a car never has been sanded before, there is usually plenty of clearcoat to have a little going over with 2000 grit, then 2500 before polishing. :) It would take some sanding on a serious scale to start burning through an entire "as new" clearcoat, especially on a VAG car.

I agree but thicknesses vary from car to car..better to be safe than sorry.

Naturally..if one is not available, then only common sense is needed

"common sense" lol, this is where people will burn through an entire layer. Not having any common sense. Haha

Which is why I said a paint meter..lol
