Extended Warranty - which provider?

Featured Replies

When my Octavia's Skoda warranty expired at the end of last year I wasn't offered an extended warranty by Skoda/dealer and I didn't have the foresight to enquire.

My wife is troubled by this and has asked me to arrange something to cover the next 2 or 3 years. I tried WarrantyWise but their website doesn't recognize my reg number. Warranty Direct insist on quoting for manual not semi auto (dsg). Can anyone recommend a provider? I have the Skoda extended breakdown run by the RAC, anyone tried them for extended warranty. I have also asked Skoda if it's too late for me to have a Skoda warranty extension (no reply so far)

You would need to pay for inspection of the car to reinstate the "Skoda branded" warranty, might be better to phone up WD to get a quote.

Thanks, I've got a few quotes from the likes of WD and WWise. I shall have to read the small print re exclusions. I agree I doubt Skoda will be interested 4 months after expiry of 3 year warranty (which someone told me is 2yr by manufacture + 1yr by dealer). And one provider is interested only if car is less than 3 months after MOT passed.

Whichever warranty you go for check it includes 'consequential damage'.

This is when a part fails (usually a small low cost component) which then takes out a much bigger and more expensive component (turbo, engine, etc.).

The warranty company pays out on the low cost part and leaves you with a big bill.

You'll be suprised how many aftermarket warranties do not include 'consequential damage'.

I learnt the hard way by the way. Failed swirl flap on an inlet manifold (£48), took out the engine, turbo and catalytic converter (£7,000).

When I had my last Vrs I took out the Extended Skoda Warranty which included RAC full Cover

I think if the car has always been looked after by Skoda you will get looked after, we'll at my local dealers you will

Great advice . Thanks

I purchased a WD warranty only to have my car booked in with Skoda to be told WD do not have an account with Skoda so they will not justify a claim or so the work. So I cancelled the warranty and took out the Skoda approved one.

WD will do anything to keep you reduce price and offer higher cover but Skoda Aberdeen don't entertain them at all.

Stick with Skoda warranty at least you have some sort of customer care backup and not having to do all the phoning either.

WD cover wear and tear which Skoda don't. Sounds like the garage "don't entertain them" was the issue not WD.

Bet the garage were delighted to sell you their Skoda extended warranty package after telling you that.

Had WD on my Audi and had no issues with claims via a range of garages including Audi main dealers.

Most of these companies use the same claims software so claim process will be identical at any given garage.

Also be aware the "Skoda" extended warranty is just an exercise in branding and does not offer the same cover as the actual original Skoda warranty...

Skoda warranty was the same price I'm no worse off. I couldn't be done with the hassle of 2 companies trying to sort one problem and having to pay for the repair and then try to claim back the cost from WD. I was assured by WD they had account with all major dealers including my local one. That was a lie as when I call up to cancel they confirmed this. Different person I spoke to in WD also informed me that they wouldn't of paid for the fault with my car is it was related to the emmissions. Something none of the policies actually cover. Where as the Skoda one did.

I went for WD as they have great reviews but unfortunately my dealership are fussy. Over a barrel really.

aa breakdown repair cover is a kind of warranty they payout up £500 per claim. you pay the first £35 at the point of breakdown and they recover to a garage of you choice or they recommed one near by. you can also have mulitable claims per year upto an car age of 10 years.there is an upfront fee when you take out the cover which if i remember was £35.

I checked with SkodaUK about extended warrantyfor my 59 Octavia and was told that it's a dealer sale and is not the same as the Skoda 3 year warranty (the hint was that it's not as good).

But the good news is that with new Skodas you can purchase at time of sale an extra 2 yrs Skoda warranty, ie not third party add-on, which means you can enjoy Skoda protection for 5yrs. This may be better than going third party route, as usual much depends on cost and degree of cover.

The extended warranty from Skoda is not as good as the initial cover. That said, seeing as Skoda UK gave me an extra two years as a good will gesture I'm not complaining ;)

The problem with all extended warranties is if your like me you take it out as long as you can with Skoda then sell the bleeding car for a new one 1-2yrs later.

I'm not sure the fault is with the extended warranty there, my Lancastrian brother!

Don't understand. Why should WD have an account with Skoda. The contract is between you and WD. Obviously I'm missing something!

I have just taken out a 3 year warranty with Warranty Wise. I looked at Warranty Direct but they were £150 and £450 more expensive than WW at £1000 (independent garage) and £1300 (franchised garage) respectively. When I pointed this out to them, they immediately dropped the price to £800 (independent garage). Why could they not offer me that price in the first place!! It just made me feel that that they were initially ripping me off, and also, I did not get the same warm and fuzzy feeling the WW warranty gave me (lack of betterment charges for a start!).

For me it was a no brainer, I now have a a transferable warranty in case I have to sell, (hopefully not, but I leave the RN in September after 22 years and am expecting to take a massive drop in salary), and I am, fingers crossed, covered for most of the known Octavia problems.

To send the invoice. Without the account I have to pay for repair then claim back from WD Point of warrnaty is to avoid hefty bills. Pointless otherwise.

OK I understand. Sorry for being dim witted about this.
