Daytime running lights

Interesting. Is this VCDS or VCP the kind of thing any multi-brand workshop has to be able to service cars (commonly called "valise" [suitcase] here)? Any idea what the correct setting for France would be?

I'm not sure which garages would keep VCDS or VCP but I'd hope VAG specialists would have access to either VCDS or a dealer equivalent such as VAS-PC or ODIS. Might worth calling around to see if what systems they use for diagnostics. In another thread on here, AutoCOM was mentioned and that also looks to be able to alter the coding of VAG group cars.

Assuming your car is a facelift, has DRL's fitted and wired in but not activated then I'd expect it would be the same setting - namely accessing the CECM (address 09) then enabling byte 15, bit 6. The exact way to do this will depend on the software involved.

Well, my mechanic does have the kind of professional/rugged looking piece of equipment that you'd expect in a garage, with a touchscreen etc. that hooks into the diag port under the dash, and that allowed him to verify the EGR after replacing it for instance (and calibrate it had that been required).

I don't know what you mean with "my car is a facelift" (the opposite if it waltzes over anyone's face I guess :)), but it does have the DRL bulbs fitted. From what I understand that means they're wired.

Met up with Karlosfandango1973 last night on my way through and his drl are now activated. As mentioned earlier all bulbs and wiring were present and it just needed byte 15 changing and then activating using the stalk.

Chalk up another one for briskodas knowledge vs dealers ;-)

10 mins with a Laptop in the freezing cold and DRL's were up and running thanks to Langers :D

Hello, it would appear that this is the home of smart people over dealers who know very little.  Ive just joined and also just purchased a 59 plate Octavia II and noted that my DRL are un activated.. Would any of you lovely folks know of anyone/any place in or around East London who might be able to assist with turning them on.. Some of you are a little to far away for me to 'pop'' to.

You assistance will be gratefully received.

Take a look at these two threads:

http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/262215-list-of-vcds-owners-previously-known-as-vag-com/

http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/224376-vcds-owners-map/

When you have a few more posts you should be able to PM a local member from those lists and I'm sure they will be happy to help out.

If you can't find anyone closer, I'm about an hour away :)

Hi, when you have them working I suggest you replace the 21W bulbs with Leds. Make sure if you have Canbus that the Leds are compatible with Canbus. My garage recommended not using 21W bulbs, as they blow in about a month. very occasionally the bulb warning light comes on when switching on ignition, but goes out after switching off and back on.

Skoda recognised the DRL bulb failure issue and now use a 21W long life bulb.

Thanks for the heads up about the bulbs, guess I'll have to wait and see what I've got fitted. As to getting them activated, still working on that one. My brother thinks he knows someone with the right kit, but not happened as yet..

I use these http://www.morimotohid.com/led-lighting/morimoto-xb-led-1156-bulbs.html shipped from the states. I wanted something that would survive being on for long periods of time so avoided some the cheap Chinese versions that have flooded the market.

If I remember correctly, when we tried my old LEDs in your car they didn't work either. I suspect (for whatever reason) that the two wires are reversed on your car meaning the pin is negative rather than positive.

Easiest thing is to switch the two wires over in the connector to the DRL bulb holder. Alternatively, you need to find an LED bulb that contains electronics that can deal with the pin being either positive or negative.

Hello. I have an Octavia 2 pre-FL and I want to activate the DRL on the fog lights. I activated the scandinavian DRL in VCDS and turned on the "use the fog lights as DRL" option. But then both the low beam and the fog lights are working at the same time. Do you have any idea how to turn off the low beam in this case?

Strange, on my pre-FL Scout I did the same as you but it worked fine, front fogs as DRL's, no dipped headlights.

I also reduced the brightness of the front fogs down to a sensible 60%...

I used the Carista app to activate my DRLs. Don't forget that once activated, you have to switch them on using a stalk on the steering wheel as shown in the driver's handbook.

The app has now been updated to allow you to control the brilliance of the DRLs, main lights and tail lights. You can also use fogs as DRLs. Lots of other features you can add too.
