Bird Poo on Black Roof.

Featured Replies

Went To wash the car today and found a large bird turd on my black roof that must have been there all day yesterday baking in the sun.

It washed off easy enough but has left a stain or burn mark on the paintwork. I have tried polishing it out but it seems to be right in the paintwork.

Any ideas how to get it out without damaging the paintwork.

Use a relatively mild cutting compound. Megs ultimate compound is pretty good I find, or even try scratch-x to begin with as it is not as abrasive.

Good luck.

Yes, use the metallic version if it's metalic of course, plus two coats of a good quality resin polish all over the roof so that doesn't happen again! If you've waxed it, get that off first with a solution of slightly warm water with some detergent in so the resin sticks well. Rinse well, leather, and then the resin goes on. You can also apply a couple of coats of a good wax such as Collinite over the resin to further protect it. Makes a huge difference and will give you that 'Wet Look Gloss'. The latest Autoglym Super Resin Polish gets good write ups and wins loads of awards and won't weather off for a year or more, longer if protected with wax. Good luck.

PS. I did this to my whole car last month and boy does it shine, hard work though!!

I tried scratch x and it did work slightly but the surface off the blemish is still a little rough to the touch.

I tried a clay bar with some detailing watery wax for lubrication and it has made it better but I don't know how much I should keep using it before i do more damage if the paint is too thin.

My car had an Autoglym super resin polish with the HD wax to follow about 2 months ago with a couple more quick wax's since then but this bird still managed to damage the paintwork.

An electric buffer would take it out completely but you need to know what you are doing if you use one. An experienced user will allow the buffer to heat the clearcoat just enough to flow together over scatches etc but get it wrong and you will remove the coating. Trying to remove these things by hand is often difficult and can take ages, never completely restoring it.

Edit: just seen your latest post...wow!! bloody birds. Seems you did everything you could have done to prevent the damage in the first place. Maybe the bird had been eating something very acidic.

Sorry Seboni121...I cant agree....You should never use 'TCut' on VAG paint...Its too harsh on modern acrylic paintwork

Get some Gtechnik P1 and a hand polishing pad..That should shift it

Failing that..a machine polish..if still no good it will need respraying

Just take great care on a Fabia Black roof,

there is very little Colour Coat and you will be through the paint if listening to some of the advise posted above.

I usually leave a soaking wet piece of kitchen paper, either soaked in car wash or reasonably diluted screen wash on the sh-tuff for a while to soften, then rinse and gently keep wetting and removing so as not to scratch.

An additional great tip, as seen on T.V. is to then use baby oil to re-polish the area to a nice shine!

Bird poo contains a lot of lime which, if left, will etch the paint so the quicker you treat the area the better. Red cars can be a total nightmare for this!

Great advice.

Now that the Bird Poo has gone and there is a Light Spot left on the paint, 'How do you bring the Paint back to black?'

It is looking better and if I did not show you where it was you would not know it was there, but i know it's there and it's going to bug me every time i look at the roof.

Bloody Birds......................

You do as I described George

As a Car Sprayer if i could not get the colour back into the Lightened Spot i would be blowing in the damaged area not respraying the roof.

Plenty of Black Option roofs will be needing re-sprayed, the paint/lacquer is not the best.

george

If it will polish out, thats a far better option than a repray George.

Roofs do have thinner clearcote than the other body panels..I always measure a roof carefully with my Paint Gauge before polishing

If the etching by the bird droppings has gone through then it will need polishing, other wise..no

I found that with my friends car it wasnt scratched so much as just marking the paintwork. I used clay on it and it removed the marks that polish hadnt

Black magic pearl - the metallic black is really tough and will take a bit of polishing to get marks off but dont be tempted to use anything too aggressive just more elbow grease ;)

So maybe a bit more claying will help?

If claying doesnt work, it will need polishing

Yesterday I saw a car litereary covered in bird ****e! It looked well sun baked as well :D. Some poeple simple do not give a crap so to speak :D.

Nobody mentioned "colouring" waxes, polishes? Any good ? I used one when I was selling Lupo and paint looked like new afterwards. Mind you, it doesn't last of course :)

Rule of thumb with any blemishes: start with the lightest cutting compounds first. The least cut you can get away with is the best. In this case, if the clay doesn't work, a light polish would be the next step to try. An over the counter product worth a try would be Meguiars Swirl-X (if they still make it) or maybe a step up to Scratch-X. Plenty of good brands, both well known and obscure, of course, but always make sure you read the directions first.
