Adding a private plate to a car on finance/pcp?

Featured Replies

I've seen a private plate that I'd like to buy from dvla direct and id like to put it on my octavia vRS,

Car is on pcp with vw finance, v5 is in my name.

Anyone know the procedure for this ? Is it worth the hassle or is it relatively painless?

I've not bought the plate yet but will do once I know what to do next!

Thanks.

Edit. Mods. Im Not sure if this is the right section for this question.

Just do it under the normal DVLA process. I have done it on my last 3 VRs that are all on SUK finance. HPI database is updated automatically (SUK don't bother writing to you). Be aware that the dealer never seems to see the update as they just list the original plate until you tell them to change it.

I am guessing all you have to worry about is plate transfer if the car is written off.

In thoery you need to let Skoda Finance know, they charge you for the pleasure, however I have put private plates on cars with VW Finance, and also my current car on Skoda Finance has a private plate on it, however that was from new, so its up to you if you decide to tell the finance company, just make sure it comes off in plenty of time for when you change in the future.

As said, I have never informed SUK finance on the last 3 cars and I have never had an issue.

Me neither

Nor me, painless and quick first time around 3 months ago.

I have free servicing as part of my pcp

Wouldn't I need to tell skoda when I put new plate in so they can keep my details up to date on their system?

No the dealer keeps track of the servicing plus the stamped book to back it up. As my plate is my name I always take the plate off at the end of the PCP and the original plates are reinstated by the DVLA.

Again no issues.
