DSG and DMF newbie is paranoid

Featured Replies

Hi all, I've just bout a 2007 octavia estate 2.0l tdi 25000 miles, full skoda service history etc.

I did a bit of research but didn't realise the problems associated with the 2.0l

I have been only doing around 45 mpg to and from work on a mixture of urban and 60 mph roads, is this a sign of DPF issues or am I being over paranoid?

Any info would be great

Your Octavia doesn't have a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF).

A 2007 car would be PD engined, not a common rail. Hardly any PD cars had DPF's, only the Scout, 4x4 and vRS versions did.

I am assuming you are talking about DPF and not dual mass flywheel issues? If your DMF was going you'd be hearing alsorts of funny clunks and pickup from stationary would probably be jerky and slow......though to be fair the 6 speed wet box isnt that smooth of the mark and does add in some designed clutch slippage which can feel a bit wierd but is normal.

Welcome to Briskoda by the way B)

Woohoo no DPF, probably just my poor driving with the low MPG.

DMF seems fine so far... Touch wood!

Many thanks for the quick replies!

25k on a '07? Probably needs to be used a bit. Sounds like it's just been for an MOT and back each year ;)

Is 45mpg poor mpg on a 2.0 Tdi DSG over mixed useage? My vRS is returning less than that (albeit with a slightly higher % of urban use - see below for current average). The DSG is not particularly economical compared to a manual and the most I've ever got out of mine is just over 45mpg. That said, the highest I've ever had out of any vehicle was 47mpg out of my old Vectra 1.9CDTi estate.

Not really.

The book combined figure is 47 mpg, but one thing I notice about the DSG Octavia is that short trips and urban type driving particularly hurts average fuel economy compared to a manual. Mine only averages 42 mpg (calculated not trip computer figure) at the moment. But it's mainly used for short stop start trips. On a long run, driven carefully over 50 mpg is easily obtainable.

Bear in mind that the trip computer is rarely accurate......so if the trip computer is gave you that 45 mpg figure, take it with a pinch of salt. You need to do a few brim to brim calculations to verify your trip computer readings.

I agree my DSG vRS CR never really gives great MPG on v short runs, often in the late 30s/ early 40's. On a longer mixed run it'll tend to do 46/47 which is pretty much book figures........not briliant though when I used to be able to get mid late 50's more or less all the time from my old MK6 Golf GT TDi 140 manual and it wasnt even a Bluemotion Tech.
