Tailgate and comfort module

Featured Replies

I'm having a problem which I believe I've traced to the comfort module.

What's happening is that if I remotely unlock the car but only go into the tailgate it's as if the car doesn't recognise that it's been opened so after a while automatically relocks itself and of course if I then shut the tailgate it too is locked. Obviously the potential is there for the keys getting locked in !

There are no lights in the luggage area either which would tie in.

If I source a replacement module will it just slot in or will it need programming ?

I had the auto lock turned off when I first bought the car some 5 years ago because it annoyed the s%&t out of me the doors locking themselves as soon as I moved off. I presume that at least will need redoing.

Thanks for any help.

Could just be a failed microswitch in the boot lock assembly if you have no boot lights either.

I've already checked all that and nothing found amiss hence my suspicion falling further upstream to the the comfort module.

Any comments on progamming or not ?

I'd check the wiring to the tailgate where it leaves the body and flexes inside the trunking to the hatch. Similar golf estates have connectors just above the glass, mine were green with oxidisation on inspection after relacing the rusty hatch, the octy has is rear washer jet here too.

I have the rear lock for a 2001 estate and will have the comfort module too

Yes, I was planning to give it a good second going over before spending money !

The rear washer seems to have given up too.

Is the pump still working? Check that your car is not filling up with water in the rear passenger side storage bay in the boot, where the CD changer would be (if you have one). There is a plastic joiner for the washer pipe at the back here next to three connectors that regularly pops apart. Several VAG motors from this era suffer from this.

Pretty sure it's not leaking but as I say I'll give it all a good looking at this weekend.

Have to say that I'm extremely disappointed to be having these sort of major problems after only 10 years and 150,000 miles
