95/91 RON or Min 95?

Featured Replies

Anyone know the prescribed fuel on the TSI engines? 95/91 RON or Min 95?

For the UK market it would get 95 ron and upwards.

Can anyone give some info wether the use of higher octan than 95 increases motorpower and lower the fuelconsumption, or not?

Nope, the optimum fuel for a stock TSi is 95 ron.

A remapped one will use a higher grade :)

Depending on which TSI.

Our Octavia VRS is only supose to use 95 octane.

Our Fabia VRS is recommended to use at least 98 octane. It will use 95 Octane but the ECU adapts to the lower grade fuel and both fuel consumption and power is reduced. If 98+ Octane fuel is not that much more expensive then it is worth using in the Fabia VRS.

Some TSIs, like the 1.8 TSI which we had until recently, will run on 91 or 95 Octane quite happily.

Whether the engine should or can use 91, 95 or 98 is on the sticker on the filler cap.

Octane is one factor in which fuel to buy, additives can be another. I tend to buy the super market premium fuel or the branded standard fuel and that seems to give a good balance between economy and performance.

There is no point whatsoever putting 98 octane or higher fuel in an engine set up for 95 octane. You won't get any benefit whatsoever. You are far better using premium brand (Shell, Esso, BP) 95 octane all the time. Super market fuels are cheaper for a reason, yes they comply with the octane rating but as you mention, they lack the additives that premium fuels have.

Depending on which TSI.

The OP's posted in the Octy III section, kind of gives the game away.

All engines will require 95 Ron. As said pointless using any higher unless you remap the ECU.

Not correct for all TSI Engine, maybe for all Octavia TSI engine though.

The TSI engine in the 180 hp twin charge VRS Fabia requires 98 octane to run at best fuel consumption and power.

Can run on 95 Octane but the anti-knock sensor will retard the ignition and fuel consumption and power will suffer according to VAG.

Does my Octavia 3 TSI 180, that I recently ordered

differ from the Fabia one?

Yep - the Octy TSI is an 1800cc unit - the Fabia one is 1400cc and has a supercharger as well as a turbo.

Stop referring to your knacking fabia. We all know it needs 98Ron. The OP asked in the Octavia III section and got the correct answer for that.

For some reason you kerp wanting to contradict me by refferring to the TSi engine in the Fabia vRS. Yes I know this requires 98ron for optimun performance. If asked that I would have given that answer, but it wasn't and I didn't.

Thanks for your input though.

Rapid states 95ron on fuel cap. Wouldn't give it any less - some European countries still sell 91ron which I would avoid lol
