Saturday morning challenge for all of you off while I am working my backside off. Bit of fault diagnosis.

I can't reply till after work with my diagnosis and fix, but kudos to the first correct reply.

Background:

56 plate diesel vrs, 122000 miles. Goes into limp mode on heavy acceleration at 60 very occasionally

I think the dpf could do with going, but I do all motorway, so it's hanging in so far

Elephant mod 3 months ago.

Blanked egr, but with a 10mm hole 4 days ago.

Problem

Always used morrisons fuel. Because of circumstance, I was on zero miles on maxidot, so filled up at esso with a decent fuel. I brimmed it then drove about 30 seconds home.

This morning, I drove out of town, no difference.

On the motorway, the car seemed more responsive between 60 and 80 and we are not talking butt dyno here, a definate stronger pull and overtake without fear of limp mode. Happy days, never using morrisons again I thought!

After about 30 miles, I notice the maxidot mpg has gone from 58 ave on my journey to 47, oh crap!

I turn down the full blast pearl Jam and ac/dc mix to hear the car seems a bit louder than normal, but still drives nicer than normal. It took me about 50 miles of diagnosis and thinking to find the problem. Once fixed, my mpg started rising and everything was normal again.

So, what was it?

Fuel, egr, elephant mod, dpf, or something else?

You may get it straight away, but it took me a good half hour to fix......

Was it the Pearl Jam AC/DC mix?

You have finally changed to proper fuel(petrol) instead of tractor juice(deisel)

You shut the tailgate !! or dropped SWMBO off on the way (less talking and weight) better economy and quieter......

Hmmm i do like a challenge but I've not got a clue. So my guess is old grubby filters or a blocked intake.
