AP coilover help

Featured Replies

So I've had them fitted for about two weeks and think there finally settled in, I've noticed a small grinding noise, kind of like when my old mk3 golf's driveshaft was catching the chassis. I've had a look under today and they're is plenty of clearance for the shaft but it looks as if the ARB has been catching on something any ideas what? And how can I fix it without raising it, shortened drop links? Thanks for any help.

I used shortened drop link on mine even though I was told you can use standard ones. I'd say get some shorter drop links.

Does yours grind on full lock?

think I'm going to have to, it's not on full lock it's when I'm driving slowly you can hear it, something is definately rubbing on the ARB as there's us a little flat spot on it on both sides, more money into the pit lol.

Shortened drop links shouldn't cost much then fit them yourself :)

The offside driveshaft is thicker so there's every chance that's what's rubbing the arb.

Dan if yours rubs on full lock it could actually be because of the shorter drop links.

My ap's are fitted with standard drop links and don't rub or scrape of bang at all.

Before you buy other bits it might be worth seeing is you've fitted them correctly? Not doubting your mechanics skills or yours. But they shouldn't scrape?

Mine 8 threads up on the front and adjusters removed on the rear.

Maz.

Hmm never thought of that. It did it with my FK ones too. The MOT bloke said that it was the lower arms catching on the actual car!

well it didn't do them for the first week it's only just started, I would have thought if they were fitted incorrectly I would have been able to tell straight away..

Fair enough. Hope you get it sorted.

I had to get shorter ones with my ap's as they rubbed, just get some mk1 mondeo ones, only cost about £10

How low are you to cause rubbing on aps?

About 10 turns up on the front I think? It made noises when I went over dips in the road, and there was marks on the driveshafts, haven't had a single problem since putting the shorter links on.
