2010 Octavia diesel 1.6 help petrol put into fuel tank.

Featured Replies

Hi folks,

A little help please. I put petrol into my car over half a talk before I realised it. No i didn't start the car, I did however turn the key in order to be able to steer the car. I got the whole tank drained. And filled again with full tank of diesel.

Since this that car will run away fine for about 8-10 k fur first week and then I loose power. When this happens the coil light comes on and remains flashing. If I stop p the car and restart it the light his off and I get power back for another few k. On some occasions the engine management light will come on. It's about 2 weeks since this happened.

Any advice/help will be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Cathal

My guess is when you turned the key, the lift pump ran filling the lines/filter with petrol. If so, then the injectors and the HP fuel pump may be damaged.

The first thing to do is to read the fault codes.

Thanks that's what I'm fearing to be honest. Is that an expensive problem to rectify?

First, check fuel lines position under the back seat. I had this issue two weeks ago, the fuel line and plastic lift pump marked. Second, put the car on computer diagnostic mashine, I'm sure you will get fault like Low fuel pressure but try to notice where, lower pressure low or upper pressure low. Lower pressure its mean the lift pump in the tank (£170 EOM) start to play because you turn the key and engage the pump with a petrol ( solvent ) in the tank. Upper pressure it is high pressure pump problem on the way, hmmm but not sure in your case... Also check the sensors on the rail, smaller sensor on the left (rail pressure sensor) got magnetic component in it and if you fuel system generate a metal flakes the lot of it can build up on that little sensor from inside and make the tricks . When I replace my fuel filter fee weeks ago I found lot of metal flakes on the top of old element , went to Skoda which is down the road to show and ask if it is not deadly for fuel system , they said it is not to bad as my car maleage over 100k. So the last solution in this tread, go to computer test first. It may cost you around £40, my friend make me for free ))))) good luck and not to worry, hope your wife doesn't like a grey hair on your head!!!

When you drain the tank, have drain the fuel line also ????? Did you replace the fuel filter????? Who was carrying the job mate????? Give answers for all Q and I may generate some more idea mate.

Doesn't turning on the ignition prime the fuel pump?

Above link not working

Mike

The two threads have been merged into this one.

All of the documentation available to our American friends on TDI club, says that turning the key on CR engines does NOT prime the fuel pump.

I've never been able to find anything on any other sources, other than the Bentley/VW manuals the TDIClub guys have. The only way to prime the fuel pump is manually, or by using VCDS to purge air from the fuel lines. The most common one is people wanting to re-fill the fuel filter housing after changing the fuel filter and emptying the housing.

This page here, and this video

also say the same thing.

Read the code first and then start a new topic, cos many later answers not related to the question at all, just bluh, bluh...
