Tow Bar

Featured Replies

Looking to get a tow bar fitted to get a bike rack sorted as per this thread

http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/274972-bike-racks/

I live in Cardiff and rang the place the Skoda garage recommended for tow bars. I was quoted for a permanent bar with one socket (that's fine as won't ever be towing a caravan) and the wiring cut into the electrics £290 and over £400 for the same but with dedicated wiring.

Is this about right or is there a cheaper way to do it? I actually installed the tow bar on my last car ( a discovery) for much less than this).

Cheers

Anyone? Or is there a better part of this forum to ask?

Should say, I got a 2nd quote yesterday for a Fixed Bar Universal Electrics @ £261 incl Vat and fitting

Also my last car was a Discovery and having a permanent towbar didn't didn't effect the clearance height as the car was so high. As the Skoda is so much lower does it effect anything having a bar permanently on, hitting speeds bumps as you go over etc?

Thanks

The dedicated electrics will obviously be better but do you know whether that includes any coding to the car? This disables the rear park sensors amongst other features.

The prices look reasonable and inline with what I was quoted.

Mine hasn't got the dedicated electrics as it was fitted before I bought it, I did get quotes from towbar specialists before I bought a car for a fitted bar and electrics which was £300 to £400 from towbar specialists, When I realised my car didn't have the dedicated electric pack I got a quote from Skoda for just the electric pack to be upgraded and it was £350, I can see at that price why people go for after market electrics and bars!
