Fitting a dump valve on a vrs. has anyone done it? or does it knacker it up?

i don't want abusive messages saying in an idiot or a ****. Just wondering if its been done or what the complications of doing it. I have plenty of warranty left so not gonna tinker with it

There are blow off valves. some run ok some have faults. no performance gains due to the recirculating type needed. if u like the sound they are £ 50-70. But id make sure you have a fault code reader aswell

i had the forge spacer.

sounded hilarious but fitting was a right pain and caused a fair few errors to show up.

while climbing hills you can hear it constantly vent excess pressure from the supercharger as well. a very slight hissing noise. easily dround out by the radio even on low volume or rough tarmac.

I had one on mine for a bit, fitting was a pain (mainly screws supplied are far too long), didnt have any errors or leaks (i had the forge atmospheric bov rather than the spacer) it sounded quite good but was a bit of a pain due to these cars nearly always being on boost so it blew as soon as you lifted off even at low rpm, best noise it made was the supercharger waste gate flutter when it was fitted with my bmc intake

Think i sold it on ebay for 90 or 100 quid after my hpfp went bang and i went back to standerd

Only thing is it doesnt sound like a proper fast and furiuse style dump valve, for that kinda noise you want a hks ssqv (dont think it would work on the vrs) like i have on my celica

thats not mine, just found from a Google.

I like the fact that a standard vRS can go off with a bit of speed without a noise that draws people attention to you.

Kind of stealth like.

(& if not in a bright or rather obvious colour helps a bit there.)

Fitted recirc fitting back into manifold for the recirc was pain but the dump valve its self was easy take of plastic pipe feom turbo to throttle body then removed two screws and a plug and then fitting is the same if atmosphere one but if recir then gotta pipe a pipe an a metal block on a pressure sensor in the back of the engine, right pain but can be done.

I wouldnt advise for too long but unplug valve to manifold and seal of manifold side tube and then you will get a big wooooooosssshhhhhhh

You are hearing wastegate chatter on very high performance cars as well as air going into stall across the turbine blades.

Last thing you want to do on competition cars is dump your boost so they don't usually have a dump valve fitted at all.

Most rally cars and drag cars DO have dump valves fitted , there are a lot of benefits to them , ones that vent to air however are usually troublesome

Most Rally cars have antilag to keep boost at maximum pressure even when you lift off, the exact opposite of a dump valve,

Dump Valves protect the turbo, they are not to increase performance.

The fluttering noise you here on most rally cars is the sound of the air stalled across the turbine blades because it has not been dumped and the turbo is still being driven by the antilag system. Massive strain on the turbo though.

Some systems of antilag do have a pressure bypass valve but this is to keep the boost pressure at maximum during periods of antilag, anything above maximum is bled off. The pressure isn't dumped.

Rally cars still run dump valves as do BTCC cars. Anti lag is a totally different thing

Boost often stays more stable when you run a dump valve, thats better for the engine , turbo and traction

The only people I can think still running without DV's are drifters most other motorsport has moved on mainly because they run dataloggers so can actually see what happens to boost with and without one

Trick is to prevent excessive pressure build up in the intake manifold (depending on cams overlap it may lead to the intake charge being blown out of the cylinders!) but keep the turbine spinning so it's ready to deliver full boost when throttle pedal is mashed again. The bypass does just that, opens up a direct connection between intake mani and exhaust mani so that excessive pressure is used to keep the turbo spinning-good anti lag system preventing thermal overload of the blower. Older systems are based on ignition retardation causing some unburnt mixture to be dumped into exhaust mani, ignited there by high temps to create additional pressure to spin the turbine while off throttle-quite spectacular fireworks :). Sometimes injectors duty cycle is increased to introduce more fuel with big blowers-they die rather quickly mind you.

My gt4 has anti lag as standerd as its the wrc litited edition one....but i aint wireing it up unless they bring the cost of turbos down to about 50p

Iv tightened the dv up on my celica since i took the video above so it now "chatters" alot more :D
